i noticed the other day that a new song popped up on their youtube channel. i am a touch indifferent to the new track right now, but it's nice to have a new album to look forward to. . the world's end 3.5/5 all of edgar wright's movies seem to leave me feeling a touch disappointed in that i always like them, when it seems i ought to love them. still perfectly good fun, of course, and that's not to be dismissed lightly. Now You See Me 2 (2016) On the plus side the special effects and location shots were amazing, also Lizzy Chapman who replaced Isla Fisher (due to pregnancy) did the best with what she got screenwise and I think her great role in films is yet to come. However, but I preferred the orginal Four Horseman line-up and the first film overall.....because it seemed more fresher and it didn't drag on like the sequel. I give it a 2.5 out of 5

the raid - 4/5 indonesian guys relentlessly beat the hell out of each other for 100 minutes. when i first watched this about 4 years ago, i only gave it a 3 & said some nonsense about finding it a little tedious at times. i must have been shrooming. this is lean & fun & thrilling & if you want a simple, straightforward action film, i don't think you could ask for much more than this.

prevenge 3.5/5 pregnant woman, coaxed along by a series of conversations with her unborn, goes on a killing spree. directed by and starring alice lowe, who was 7 months pregnant at the time of filming, i'd say she's made a fairly singular, quirky horror film. appropriately nasty at times but also containing a good amount of satirical humour.

A little disappointing considering the talent and the epic trailers, though not without it's charms. It's definitely not one I need to see again until the sequel is about to come out. 2.5/5

For a general audience popcorn movie, i noticed so much detail/work involved. I also noticed that it was different in tone to the usual action romp. So then i went and googled to see who the director was, and his name is Jordan Vogt-Roberts. He is 32 years old. I kinda figured it was by a younger director. They have the energy and stamina to delve even into a kong movie with gusto. And are also more apt to have an original non-hollywood-stereotypical eye. So I expect he will go on to far bigger and better things. . Not that Skull Island is a '"great Movie!", but it's a good movie. It kind of reminded me of early Steven Spielberg, but not as polished or concise.

the raid 2 4.5/5 i haven't watched every action movie ever made, but if four or five of the sequences in this movie aren't among the top ten most primal, exciting, propulsive action scenes of all time, i'll eat my shoe werner herzog-style. there's an undercover cop story in here that meanders around, but it really doesn't matter much. i'm often (but not always) fairly indifferent to films that are all spectacle/no story, but when it's this exciting & done with such attention to detail, who cares?

the past 4.5/5 this feels very much 'of a piece' with the other asghar farhadi movies i've viewed recently, and it's every bit as good. there is no artifice - every second feels completely believable. the only criticism i'd dare to level is that there is perhaps a sameness to them if you view them closely together, but criticizing when the movies are of such uniformly high quality is almost senseless.

I kinda of watched the Gods of Egypt. I didn't make it to the end. It was corny has heck and not in a good way. Maybe I need to brush up on my Egyptian mythology but I think they took a WHOLE lot of shortcuts. I did like the scene when they went to visit Ra and how that was put together, the flat earth, the battle of the worm; that was about it.

Don Johnson is awesome in this movie! I just watched Split and thought it was cool but when the ending reveal came everything clicked into place, and when I realized what I just watched it made the movie really great and I think the first of it's kind in a too tired genre as of late.

the most hated woman in america 3/5 netflix's biopic of madalin murray o'hair. shares the shortcomings of a good number of these types of films, i suppose, in that it stumbles about a bit while trying to compress XX number of years into 90 minutes. a crime story, family drama & story of a movement all bump up awkwardly against each other, & none really get told in a completely satisfying way. many interesting elements, but ultimately frustrating.

Ghost in The Shell. 0-10
Yes I must admit that a scantily clad Scarlet Johansson is the reason I went. And yes sex sells. Shockingly bad movie. Weird in the lack of minimum film and story telling basics on the screen. Weird in how there was no music, but only long sustained notes every so often. It felt like it wasn't a finished product. The dialogue is every bit as bad as an anime cartoon, but this is LIVE ACTION! Every time someone opens their mouth and says something you groan out loud. How the scenes are cut together and the pacing is bizarre. Obviously this was made for the fans of this anime and for a foreign market, but damn. The movie lacks everything any story needs. No emotion, character development, no humor, no humanity just the shell as advertised. So I can't in any way shape or form recommend this movie to ANYBODY. If you are drawn to seeing a beautiful Scarlet Johansson, ...well just watch the preview. It's no exaggeration in saying this is way worse than any of you can imagine. [Edited 3/31/17 20:18pm]

the lovers and the despot - 3.5/5 documentary on the kidnapping of south korean director shin sang-ok & his ex-wife, actress choi eun-hee, by kim jong-il, in the hope they would help him build a north korean film industry. . i was a little disappointed at how conventional this documentary was, considering it tells such a bizarre story. it's perfectly fine, but paul fischer's book 'a kim jong-il production' was really great at relaying all the details of this unbelievably strange story i thought, and i don't think someone watching this doc without any background would get the same impact. if you're interested in the tale, i'd go to the book first.

I had my first threesome yesterday! Yep, after all these years I finally did it. I didn’t even have to convince my wife – she was cool with it! Astor is also America's best up-and-coming actress and is about to make her star turn in a new play. But her husband's re-emergence zombifies her and puts the play at risk. So......SPOILER ALERT..... Edward G. Robinson takes matters into his own hands and ultimately kills the guy.
