Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. MAJOR SPOILERS.

So, what did you think?

For me, it was a bit dull and the characters were not engaging. Couldn't care less that they all died at the end. The droid was the best.

That said there were some payoffs.

Vader was amazing at the end the way the film ended right at the start of A New Hope on Organa's ship was epic and gave me goosebumps.

Tarkin and Leia. Wow.

I wish Saw Gererra (Forest Whittaker) had a bigger role. He may have saved it a bit with his presence.

I may have missed some nuance when I was sleeping.
lol

I hope you didn't read my post.

I'll see it again but wait until I can at home. Was planning to go back with my 8 year old nephew (like I did the day after I saw ep7) but don't feel inclined with Rogue One having seen it. To be fair, it finished at midnight and I'd been awake since 3 am.

I love spoilers, (eg. when The Force Awakens came out last year, and someone here on the board said Daniel Craig was playing a Storm Tropper I was able to spot him).....and extras and commentries on dvds and blu rays. I would like to know if there is any additional scenes at the end of the credits?

That will ruin it. Don't ever go to a Star Wars marathon because people that went to those last year didn't enjoy The Force Awakens nearly as much as people that got to sleep.

OMG they all die, why didn't you post a spoiler warning? razz

I'll probably go to a matinee tomorrow even if I'm afraid of being bored, though from your review there are some things that will make it worthwhile.

Yeah and pay no mind to my review. Seems it's being warmly received for the post part. This one probably best matches my experience.

I agree there were some pacing issues early on... but I think the pay off was well worth it.... I did not care for Tarkin. He looked fake. I am not sure I needed to be hit over the head so much about the 'flaw'

it was cool seeing some old ep IV faces... it was funny to see the 'orginal' Red 5!

I had a petter griffin moment...

Well it was ...cool? Have to say my favorite part was seeing Vader's lair on Mustafar (awesome prequel nod, suck it purists). Spent most of the movie distracted by how cute Cassian's face is. Honestly this movie is fine for adults but it's a pretty hard PG-13. I wouldn't take kids in the single digit ages to see it. I say the first spinoff movie passed though I'm still concerned about Young Han Solo and dreading the inevitable Boba Fett (least favorite character ever) movie. Guess What, I want another hit so I'll go back to see it a second time.

There was one scene where Tarkin looked like a PS2 NPC but the rest of the movie he looked really great.

Holy Jedi! Rogue One ranks right up there with the Empire Strikes Back. Those scenes with the pissed off Sith Lord brought out my inner fan boy. Darth Vader opened up a can of serious whoop ass on the rebel scum. I was like, "Yeah, that's what I'm talking about!"

What pissed off Sith? Maybe when I was asleep!

The only Sith I remember was Vader.

Wonderfully done. A better movie pound-for-pound than Episode VII and probably instantly top-3 in the franchise.

And the end just emphasizes what this universe really needs.

A stand alone Vader Movie.

I have to see it again. I was a little disappointed, but only because this fool at work saw it Thurs night and told me "You'll have a new love for Vader." I said, "Whoa...so he's not just in the movie for two seconds?" and he said "Oh no...he's IN the movie!" which led me to believe there was goiing to be a LOT of Vader, and I kept waiting and waiting...BASTARD! I definitely lked the movie, but disppointed "waiting" for Vader.

Make it so, Number One...

Righty ho. I misunderstood. Referring to him as "the pissed off
Sith" read to me like "that bad guy who's name I can't remember" which of course makes no sense if it was Vader. But yes, his final scene was
One of his best in the whole franchise in terms of an illustration of his power. Think of it in context against his lacklustre fight with Obi Wan just ,what, two days later?

Well in the Blu-Ray Special Edition of Star Wars (the canon version) the duel on the death star was sped up and more intense.

I went Thursday and this makes me glad I did. If you were expecting to get a lot of Vader like in the OT I can see being disappointed. That being said, I think it was a great movie even without the Vader scenes, but those scenes (especially the last one) added a dash of something special to it.

I hear you guys, but A New Hope was made 40 years ago, with no guarantee that there would ever be another film. The Vader-Kenobi duel was designed to move Luke's plot forward and provide some dramatic punch. Subsequent films have been invested in Vader's all-consuming power because it became increasingly important as the franchise and EU wore on. So the inconsistency is understandable.

Another way to see the ANH duel in the context of the rest of the franchise -- Vader knew he'd beat Kenobi, and Kenobi knew he wouldn't survive. Vader was toying with Obi-Wan to satisfy himself, and Obi-Wan was buying time. It was only when Luke yelled "No!" that Vader had an inkling of what was happening.

Obi-Wan sacrificed himself for Luke and the rebellion, as he KNEW he would from the minute he received Leia's message.

yeahthat I just watched it biggrin I give it a 4 out of 5 yoda I am still amazed how they brought back Peter Cushing (who passed away RIP in 1994) who played the Death Star commander Grand Moff Tarkin, and how they managed to have a young digitised Princess Leia at the end, when she received the Death Star plans. I was like omfg special effects have come along way.

I thought of The Magnificent Seven, but at least some of them lived at the end. Dirty Dozen is a good call.

Maybe even The Wild Bunch?
