Am I the only one to notice Rogue One as the Star Wars Universe's version of The Dirty Dozen? hmmm

I thought of The Magnificent Seven, but at least some of them lived at the end. Dirty Dozen is a good call.

Maybe even The Wild Bunch?

Those too! nod

I have to see it again. I was a little disappointed, but only because this fool at work saw it Thurs night and told me "You'll have a new love for Vader." I said, "Whoa...so he's not just in the movie for two seconds?" and he said "Oh no...he's IN the movie!" which led me to believe there was goiing to be a LOT of Vader, and I kept waiting and waiting...BASTARD! I definitely lked the movie, but disppointed "waiting" for Vader.

I was disappointed too but the 3D effects and seeing the IMAX version helped me forget that the acting and plot pretty much sucked. Seemed like a lot of 14 year olds and nerds in the audience too. Go figure.

I hated the prequels and force awakens was pretty awful with yet another death star, shit rate cgi (that thing han was smuggling), and that stupid bb8 baby ball toddler fodder, but I really enjoyed rogue one. Best starwars related anything in a long fucking time..

Ps vader didn't need to try hard with obi wan as obi was frail his saber barely worked and he gave up at the end anyway ... luke was his son and he didn't want to kill him so he took it easy on luke .. was great to see how awsome vader could be when in full attck mode ... prequels just ruined lightsabers ... too many used poorly .. they got vader right in this movie after butchering him in the prequels with all that horrible acting and even worse dialog

in the original trilogy lightsabers were used sparingly .. this created tension and drama .. in the prequels they crammed as many lightsabers into a scene as often as possible .. furthermore the jedi sliced through every oponent like paper .. there was nothing dramatic about it ... it was like playing lego starwars video game ... ur not gonna die and ur gonna hit every target and win .. zero challenge .. zero tension .. zero drama .. just a lightsaber overload with no real purpose .. there is so much wrong with the prequels it is nauseating .. i am sure all those in diapers loved it and all that but star wars was not JUST for those in diapers .. despite the likes of bb8 and jar jar showing evidence to the contrary

i agree 100%. the star wars franchise was founded on a love of making movies and making them good and telling stories the way only movies could. it has since evolved into a revenue generating engine. all the 'movie' stuff seems secondary to cramming as much crap in so that the kiddos will go to the store and buy whatever piece of light-up plastic replicates what they saw on screen.

i do feel that episode 7 took a step back in the right direction, though...it's at least a happy medium.

There's some validity to what you say. I enjoyed the saber action overall in the prequels. I just have an opposite view.

More Jedi > more usage. Even still, the ratio of saber action scenes to non-saber scenes was about the same as the original trilogy, except maybe for Episode II.

furthermore the jedi sliced through every oponent like paper .. there was nothing dramatic about it ... it was like playing lego starwars video game ... ur not gonna die and ur gonna hit every target and win .. zero challenge .. zero tension .. zero drama ..

Tell that to the Jedi who died in II and III. wink The saber scenes in II were anticlimactic. The criticism of the Obi-Wan/Vader faceoff in III as over the top was as well. But the final duel in Ep I, Dooku's final duel in III and the Sidious/Yoda duel in III were as good as they come.

I think your complaints flow from the artificial tones of the prequels themselves.

A lot of old heads loved the saber battles in the prequels. They served numerous purposes:

- to show the powers of the Jedi Order with numbers.

- to give some detail to what the Clone Wars actually looked like.

- to demonstrate the impressive powers of Yoda in his prime.

- as plot devices to accelerate the story and fill gaps in the timeline (Qui-Gon's death, Dooku's death, Yoda's defeat.

I fail to see how we wouldn't expect tons of sabers in the films, when they were about the fall of the Jedi Order. I think they could have been staged with less CGI; that does make an impact (see Episode VII).

Respectfully, I think your critiques have more to do with the production of the prequels as a whole than the sabers themselves. And to that extent, I definitely agree.

I liked it. It is one of those movies I need to see 2 or 3 times because still not sure who is who yet or what place they are talking about, plus the politics behind it. Yes Darth Vader kicked ass.

Holy Jedi! Rogue One ranks right up there with the Empire Strikes Back. Those scenes with the pissed off Sith Lord brought out my inner fan boy. Darth Vader opened up a can of serious whoop ass on the rebel scum. I was like, "Yeah, that's what I'm talking about!"

My thoughts exactly.
