...but there's been some talk of VR-type stuff on here, so.... - who thinks we should use this thing to meet up? After all, it's 2017, isn't this textual interface getting a bit old...?

Nah I'm out... I can't use/wear VR headsets, I suffer from vertigo. 3D movies make me sick.

no thanks. after 'gamergate' i doubt ill ever try living in anything but the 'real' world, which is perplexing enough for me not even for the ORG

virtual and online attacks, of an extremely mysogynistic fashion, made on female gamers in the virtual world. during role playing games women experienced virtual rape, physical assault, interference, and mockery about, (among other things), female gaming characters needing bigger breasts and so forth, all in the VR world.

but there's more. all of this was then followed up by even more ugliness in the real world in the form of vicious personal attacks on the women who publicly complained about same.

proving to me that some male gamers need to grow up a bit more before i would even consider joining them there. all in all - disgusting. shades of what happens to women on wall street and the like.

VR has only really come into prominence within the last year or so with the release of the Vive, Rift and PSVR so virtual reality gaming is not really to blame for that kind of behaviour. Like, these things didn't happen in the "VR world". I think you might be mistaking VR for general online gaming. VR is a different thing entirely and, especially in the PSVR's case, seems to be so far aimed primarily at single player games. But regarding the whole gamergate thing, I would say it's a vast minority of people who would behave like that. I've never personally been threatened or abused or anything like that just because I'm a girl. Not even once. And even if I was, it wouldn't bother me. I'm a 26 year old woman, I've got my own house, bought and paid for, a beautiful little girl who just started school last September and I've saved enough that I afford to be home when she needs me. Why would I care what some spotty little loser says about me in an online game? Granted, I don't play online much. Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon (both on Wii U) are about as far as I go with online games. So, I wouldn't let the immaturity of some "gamers" detract from my enjoyment of the medium. And you shouldn't either. Especially not where VR is concerned. Trying it for the first time is like nothing you've ever experienced before.

still not convincing me, but thank you for the insights into your lovely life! for me, i think i'll stay right here for now. i guess i prefer traveling in the 'real' world, if it comes to that. maybe someday VR and its kin will appeal more to me, but i imagine that for my later years

Wow, this kind of thing is disheartening to hear - as you guys know, I've said before, that I harbour some ambitions of becoming a game developer (actually, now - game/VR developer! ), someday - it's really shit to know that a user/users could take what we created, and put it to THIS use

But anyway - what kind of games would y'all LIKE to play? xxaxx - what would be a GOOD use of VR for you?

for me? none. i think it's important to connect with NATURE. in the REAL WORLD.

but, i can see VR being used with great results maybe in an educational context? taking peole on journeys to regions they could not otherwise explore? don't mind me, dearie, i'm all set in my ways and such. i do love watching documentaries though, and VR could be an excellent addition to those.

That sounds hideous. You definitely need regular breaks from it. The resolution is also in the early phases. I think if it's a technology that gains ground, the next 5-10 years will be incredible. A similar app to the one described is the Hulu app on psvr where you have a virtual huge screen to watch on. You can create your own background be it a luxury hi spec apartment with either city views, forest or desert or a cinema. Sounds naff but it's really quite cool. Not sure I could watch a whole movie in it though. If you get a chance to try VR for a few minutes, please do. My Dad (60s) tried mine and loved the car racing game until he got nauseous and had to take it off. 😂
