I've never really understood stand up, it's just talking to me. So here are mine: Weird Al Buster Keaton Jackie Chan (1980s era) Tim Conway Jerry Lewis Roy Clark (on Hee Haw) John Ritter Ray Stevens Eddie Murphy (SNL, movies) Spike Jones Little Rascals / Our Gang You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

In terms of stand up comedians, there's Richard Prior, George Carlin, Rodney Dangerfield and Eddie Murphy. They are, in my opinion, the best comedians of all time. In terms of comedic actors, my favourites are Leslie Neilson, Gene Wilder, Eddie Murphy, Richard Prior, Larry David and the 4 main cast members of Seinfeld.

Billy Connolly takes the prize for me as the all time great. No one can match his conversational style ... its like having a chat to a mate down the pub, who just happens to be the funniest guy ever. www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

I've noticed its all American comedians on the list (from what I can see ... might be wrong!). Do comics from outside the States not really play well in America? www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

Sinbad may be one of the most slept on comedians EVER. Just because he doesn't use profanity doesn't mean he isn't funny. I dare you to watch any of his 90s HBO specials and don't laugh. Hell he did a few come back specials on Comedy Central the past few years and he's just as funny. PRINCE: Always and Forever

David Jason. Honourable mention to Michael Crawford. Every single episode of Some Mothers Do 'Ave Em has me laughing so much it hurts.

“The world is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. The ride goes up and down, around and around, it has thrills and chills, and it's very brightly colored, and it's very loud, and it's fun for a while.
The best comedians can flip between laughter and poignancy.

Haha! Fair enough I'd probably say Only Fools And Horses is the best ever sitcom, not only in the UK, but worldwide. What sets Some mothers... apart from those other shows is Frank Spencer. Without him, it would be just as bad as George and Mildred and The Good Life etc. But Michael Crawford as Frank Spencer is hilarious to me.

I can certainly appreciate the craft, especially the slapstick antics that Crawford got up to (the rollerskating under the truck!! ) ... I just never got TV characters that were that dim. Because I find it too unbelievable they just become annoying. Like Joey's worst moments in Friends ... the episode where Pheobe tried to teach him French was by far the worst episode. If you haven't seen it, 'treat' yourself www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

If you haven't seen it, 'treat' yourself I've had the "pleasure" of seeing every friends episode and I remember that one. Yes, it is awful, even by Friends standards. Woody in Cheers was alright though, as an example of stupid TV characters that were good. Father Dougal in Father Ted is another one. There's not many others though...
