For some reason I couldn't post on that thread, so I thought I would start a new one and give my review of the show so far. In a nutshell "The multi-talented Baz Luhrmann and a team of collaborators -- Oscar-winner Catherine Martin, legendary MC Nas, Grandmaster Flash, Pulitzer-winning playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis, and hip-hop historian Nelson George -- have created a music-driven drama that documents the emergence of a new art form. Set in the late 1970s, when New York was at the brink of bankruptcy and disco was dying out, the rise of hip-hop is told through the lives, art, music and dance of a group of young people in the South Bronx.'IMDb. I binged watched the first 6 episodes (the next 6 will appear on Netflix sometime in 2017) and I have to say I really enjoyed it, because of the people who are involved (huge Baz Lohrmann fan) and the top notch talent of this production. In fact I like this show more than the Jagger/Martin Scorsese's Vinyl, because it seemed more authentic as they use alot of news, music, fashion, stock footage from that time period. Plus the cast are more appealing, especially the characters Jaden Smith, Shameik More and Justice Smith portray, who help achor the show. I give this show a 4 out of 5 and I look forward for the rest of the season in 2017.

It gets you hooked in. I was only gonna watch the pilot......and then I ended up watching all 6 episodes it's such a great showcase of talent.

I have read the article, I didn't know it cost that much to make it....but I guess the fashion, music, the sets woud be expensive.

Watched episode 6 tonight and it was great. I have always liked Baz's stuff but this was really just letting him play in the sandbox and it really payed off. I see some major Emmy wins for this show. Cant wait for the next 6 in September. Shit I actually enjoyed that Jaden Smiths performance.

Though I have to ask was Star Wars a big deal for the black community?

Star Wars was and still is YUUUGE in the BC...

I haven't been able to get into The Get Down, so I ended up binging Luke Cage.
