Avril et le Monde truqué / April and the Extraordinary World (2015) - In 1941, France is still asleep in the nineteenth century, governed by steam and Napoleon V. As scientists vanish mysteriously, teenage Avril goes in search of her missing scientist parents.

I love the animation and the sci-fi alternate history setting. 4.5/5

The Wolf of Wall Street 3/5- The whole story and "super cool" and over the top Leonardo's charecter is just too much for me, but a good movie, though.

Captain America: Civil War.

Easily the best superhero movie I've seen in a long time, though if you haven't seen the previous Captain America, Iron Man, Avengers, etc movies then you may not know who's who or what's going on but if you're up to date on all things Marvel, you'll love it.

I'd probably go as far as a 9. Maybe. I liked it better than Dawn of Justice but I don't think Chris Evans or Robert Downey Jr were as good as Ben Affleck.

Honestly we shouldn't compair Dawn of Justice and Captain America Civil war since DC Justice League is not that well established yet were as Captain America Civil war is. I say if there is a second or third JLA movie then compair that one to Captain America Civil war movie.

Miles Ahead (2015) - An exploration of the life and music of Miles Davis.

Don Cheadle did a good job. I thought the free-form narrative was an appropriate choice for a jazz film. 3.5/5

If you like filthy jokes and/or Aubrey Plaza half-nekkid, this is the film for you! Luckily for me, I enjoy both! biggrin ...Zac Efron also spends an insane amount of screentime wearing nothing but a strategically-placed "fanny pack" (if male nudity's your thing).

Citizen Kane it is not and formulaic it is (in spades). But if you're in the mood for some raunchy sex-and-drugs gags and you're not offended by politically-incorrect humor, you might have some laughs.

I seen this movie in the cinema because I lost a bet. It made me sad. I had to watch Raging Bull and Heat to remind myself that Robert de Niro used to be a great actor...

Akounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai / Rain The Color Of Blue With A Little Red In It (2015) - A revolutionary story of guitars, motorcycles, cell phones, and the music of a new generation

I saw this very good homage to Purple Rain at the New York African Film Festival. There was a Q&A session after the screening with the director and star of the movie and the director said he had hoped to one day show the movie to Prince, but sadly, that never came to pass. sad 3.5/5

Captain America: Civil War (2016) - Political interference in the Avengers' activities causes a rift between former allies Captain America and Iron Man.

The highlight for me was seeing Spider-Man interact with the Avengers on the big screen for the first time. 4/5

Sing Street (2016) - A boy growing up in Dublin during the 1980s escapes his strained family life by starting a band to impress the mysterious girl he likes.

From John Carney, the director of Once and Begin Again is his latest music movie, this time set in the 80s. The John Hughes similarities are obvious and while not a big fan of John Hughes myself, having been a teen in the 80s does make this one my favorite of the three films. Despite its flaws, its earnestness and positivity completely won me over by the end. A big "yay" for this one. 4.5/5

Captain America: Civil War. 5.5/10. I think the reason for the conflict was weak. As was the villian. Fight scenes were cool, though.

The Green Room

My brother and I read good reviews about this, and had been waiting for it to come out for months. After seeing it, both of us were disappointed. Weakly developed characters, a poorly casted Patrick Stewart, and a wasted opportunity to play up the punk aesthetic killed it for me.

2.5/5 stars
If you will, so will I

I usually check out 'the Art of/Making of ____' books if available before watching a movie like this. And at first glance the book did not pull me. So I put my Barns & Nobles card away and left the book there. And did not go see it. A buddy called me a few weeks and wanted to see it, I decided to go and was very pleased with the movie. it was very interesting and I liked how they showed battle scenes from the Man of Steel movie and inserted Batman in it like he was watching it.

I loved the introdution of Wonderwoman, the Flash, Aquaman and 1 or 2 others
I rate it a 5 out of 5

That day I went back to Barns & Nobles and bought the Art of ____ book. And I see more than I saw when I first looked at it. The sound track and the blue ray are next.

Ride Along 2

I never saw “Ride Along 1” so I was lost the entire movie.

No I wasn’t! Just kidding! No one could get lost in this movie, not even after ¾ of a bottle of Mark West Pinot Noir, vintage 2014. Trust me on that.

The dichotomy of this movie is puzzling. On the one hand, it’s supposed to be funny. But Ice Cube…Ice T….Iced Cappuccino? I get all the Ice guys confused. I think this guy is Ice Cube, yes? He’s the most scowly of all the Ice guys. So I’m going with Ice Cube. I think a Cube would be more scowly than a T or a Cappuccino.

Anyway, as far being in a comedy goes, Ice Cube isn’t funny. I like him, I think he’s a good actor, but he just isn’t funny. Nor is he good as a straight man. To me, he’s a guy that commands respect every time he speaks. He’d be great in a drama (isn’t he on one of the 295 CSIs or Law and Orders? He’s probably perfect for a show like that). But there’s nothing about him that you can build a comedy around. And the weird thing is, he’s been in lots of comedies. At least, I know he was in “21 Jump Street” and “Ride Along 1” and some “Barbershop” movies. So right away we have a scowly problem.

Kevin Hart, on the other hand, is a RIOT. The only movie I’d seen him in prior to this was “Get Hard”, which was so bad I turned it off after 45 minutes. Now, that movie sucked. I mean, it REALLY sucked. But then I saw Hart in a couple episodes of “Real Husbands of Hollywood” and I laughed my keister off! I’ve got to pick up some DVDs of that for summer viewing.

As funny as Hart is, there aren’t that many funny scenes in this movie. Again, I think it’s because he doesn’t have anyone funny to feed off of. In “Real Husbands”, he has about a half dozen hilarious actors to work with, and that makes the difference. But here, not so much.

The movie revolves around Ice Cube and Hart going to Florida to apprehend Chang from “Community”. Chang is a computer nerd for some giant crook and has stolen some dough from the crook. He also has the code that will unlock a memory stick that Ice Cube got off some other crook in a shoot-out involving a lime green Chevrolet Tahoe, or Cadillac Escalade. Something like that. Chang flees to Florida, and since Hart got Ice Cube’s partner shot, Hart wiggles his way into the trip. It turns out that all the bad guys die, so the whole reason for going to Florida in the first place is moot, except –

OLIVIA MUNN. Whooooeeee, does she look good in this movie! But isn’t she a comedienne? If I recall, she got her start on “The Daily Show”, and I always thought she was a funny, attractive comedienne. You know – the exact opposite of Amy Shumer. Oooof! (OK, I googled her and she’s done lots of different stuff. But I’m still not a fan of Amy Shumer.)

Olivia Munn’s character (she plays a Miami homicide cop) is introduced mainly so she can be in “Ride Along 3” because she is now Ice Cube’s girlfriend. Maybe with such a hot, kick-ass girlfriend, Ice Cube won’t be so scowly!

We could talk about Olivia Munn for many paragraphs but the only thing I really want to say is this – near as I can tell, everyone that’s ever been named “Oliva” has been beautiful.

But even Olivia Munn can’t save this movie because of that dichotomy thing I mentioned earlier. The other thing this movie wants to be is an action/adventure movie. The plot doesn’t deliver. The action isn’t that great. The best part is a car chase in which Hart turns it into a video game. However, even that is only mildly interesting.

So what we have is a comedy that isn’t very funny, and an action/adventure that doesn’t have a compelling plot or any memorable action. But it does have Oliva Munn!

Since I’m going to be watching “Real Husbands of Hollywood” this summer, and since there are 7 recurring guys in “Real Husbands of Hollywood”, that is how I’ll rate this movie. I could have rated it based on Scowly Dudes Named Ice Something, but there aren’t enough scowly dudes with Ice in their name – not even if you include Vanilla Ice.

I can only rate this movie 1.5 Real Husbands of Hollywood out of 7 Real Husbands of Hollywood. Or to put it in human terms, I rate this movie as Kevin Hart and half of J. B. Smoove.

I've considered seeing this, but I think I can wait.

I enjoyed Begin Again (despite the "MUSIC INDUSTRY BAD!" hippy-dippy bullshit rolleyes). Ruffalo was great (as always), I like watching Knightley, and Gregg Alexander is a musical genius.

Never saw Once. Looks far too sappy for me.

Captain America: Civl War (2016)

Pretty much like most Marvel movies -- highly entertaining, well-executed, disposable. But I did like the introduction of Black Panther; Marvel is diversifying its MCU.
