Tanning Is artificial tanning worse than the actual sun?
I went tanning for the first time yesterday. My session was only 7 minutes long and I look like a lobster! I thought I'd go and get a base tan before I leave for the Domincan Republic and I'm actually allergic to the sun so I thought this would be better for me. Anyone know??? I'm a little frightened by how much color I got the first time.

If all else fails try fake tanner..Use the cream ones.. not the spray ones. I have found that gives me a base before i go in the sun. I am fair so it dont' make me sooo red!

I was thinking of that but I'll still burn if I just use the spray and then go on vacation. I use sunblock and because I"m allergic to the sun I still get all puffy. I guess I wasn't meant to be a sunworshipper!

I am sorry your not a sun worshiper but just think your probably ahead of the game with all the cancer risks from the sun! ENJOY YOUR VACATION!!!

I just spoke to a girl I work with and her husband was just certified to give botox (sp?) treatments...so I'm going to enjoy the sun as much as possible. And if if gives me wrinkles...BOTOX TO THE RESCUE!!!

some nationally syndicated doctor - Dr Gene O 'dell!!?? not sure if i butchered that or not ... but he is on radio ... he was talking about this topic the other day ...
he was saying how the tanning beds ... at first ... used to say that they were better because of the type of UV light , etc ... but now ... it has been found to have virtually no difference ... between the sun and the tanning bed ... the only + for the tanning bed is that u can "measure " the amount of exposure u get ... lol .. as u found out ... not sure if that helps at all or not ...

I haven't exposed myself to those turboboosts of sunlight
in over 6 years now. Apart from it being dangerous, I just go insane when I have to lie in the sun with only some shorts on for a while. It's horrible, you feel as if you're about to burst open like a sausage. Fake tanning is not very healthy either. We used to have a sunbed at home years ago and whenever I'd spent 10 mins under that, you'd smell like some combination of cooked chicken and dried up sperm for days after no matter how you washed. I heard a lot of people say that they smell funny when they've been on a sunbed [although no one mentioned my own particular blend of aromas]. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I was SITTING outside yesterday at a coffee shop with my ex and I got really badly burnt on my chest! You can even see the little white circle in the middle from the pendant that was around my neck:
I was not made to be exposed to the sun, either. My mom is really fair but my dad is so tan, people ask him if he's Mexican/Filipino (he's Japanese ). My sisters also tan very easily. I mean, like, where is the sun?

I'll get raised bumps on my arms and legs if I don't use sunscreen...and then they get itchy. I can't put my face in the sun AT ALL, it puffs up terribly and HURTS.

How's your jaw, Carrie? My jaw SUCKS this week. I've been stressed out and grinding my teeth tremendously. I've had a headache for 5 days now. But tonight I'm going to relax and take a hot bubble bath, maybe get some nookie. That'll help

Ouch, Natsume!
All I know is that you should really watch how long you spend in there. The beds release twice the amount of UVA rays as the sun.. basically a 15-30 minute tanning session is equal to an entire day in the sun, so, you not only have a higher risk of developing skin cancer, but also a higher risk of doing other damage to your skin. Just... be careful!

Never had to do the fake tanning, Since I have olive color skin it's pretty easy for me to tan naturally, it's pretty easy where I live cause it can get as hot as 107 during the summer. Great tanning weather.

Tan in a can might be good for you. My father has something like this and he's black. He doesn't wear sunscreen because he wasn't raised with it so instead he wears long sleeved shirts and trousers all the time.
