Posting messages with the sole intention of moving the thread to the top of the page is an abuse of the service and ruins things for others. If everyone wanted the thread at the top of the page, they'd be posting in the thread already and it was already be up there. I really don't feel it contributes anything to a discussion to post "bump" on a thread.

It isn't asking too much, I feel, to ask people to contribute to the discussion in the threads they post on. It's just about being considerate to other people on the site. Reviving old threads is fine, but at least have something to add other than "." or "bump"
