Ever work at a Mortuary?

The last job I had before the one I'm in now was at a mortuary. I was there for 8 months. It was by far one of the most interesting jobs I've ever had. I worked on a property audit so I wasn't dealing with the bodies.

It wasn't as scary or gross as most people would think. It was actually more sad than it was scary or gross. I could never do the job of the counselors. I wanted to cry just seeing the greiving families and the baby section of the cemetary was so sad sad Actually the Mausoleum was kinda scary. Part of my duties in working on this property audit was to account for the cremated remains in the Mausoleum attic. Most of those remains were actually amputated limbs, hands, feet, arms and legs!! That's what they do with those things, they cremate them. There were even some spaces/urns/plots purchased for these amputations!

I did ask to see an embalming but it was against the rules as only certified staff were allowed to be a part of the process. It was a trip because sometimes on the way out to lunch or on the way in, there would be bodies in the hallway waiting for preparation (embalming) or burial. I only saw glimpses of bodies when the caskets were a little open. I never saw any of the bodies as they came in, only the as they left.

Overall the people were very nice although there were a few rotten bitches. The people that were the most fun and had the best sense of humor were the embalmers! Perhaps it was their scientific approach to the process. They treated the bodies with dignity but away from the embalming they were cotal cutups.

Anybody else ever work at a mortuary?

No. But I used to want to be a mortuary beautician when I was younger.
