When many of those cultures became Christianized, they kept their symbols and traditions. Yep, the same is true of the traditional Christmas celebration at the end of the year, which was Christianized from pagan origins.

Yup! In fact, most of the Christian holidays have some sort of pagan element in it that was adapted by converts.
