I've had both and I love both. But dogs are probably my favorite animal other than humans. And many times, even more than most humans. They've often been my closest friend. And in the lean years, they're the ones I can most be myself with. I love all my 4 dogs very much and I can't imagine how my life would've been without them.

Plus, they're the perfect animal to compliment humans. They're smart, emotional, physical and compassionate. And from an evolutionary standpoint, they complete what we're weak at. We're the eyes and the hands, they're the nose and ears. A great package deal.

We have a dog named Buddy. He's a mutt we rescued from a grocery store parking lot. He was obviously confused, and scared... for the first two to three weeks he was so timid and unsure of us... the vet tells us he was most likely abused and that he's half German Shepard and half Labrador.

Three years later, he's the most loyal and smartest animal I've ever seen, or had the pleasure to own.

We also have a cat named Mr. Tuxedo who follows me around the house like a shadow. However, only when he's in the mood for lovin' or eatin'. Most the time he sleeps and waits for us to die. He loves my youngest son, and tends to actually look forward to his awkward hugs and half assed carrying style (my son is five).

Recently, Mr. Tuxedo died a cruel death when someone in our neighborhood poisoned him. We found him totally immobile, in a strange daze... he was later put "down" by our vet who said it was something he was fed. I think either cruel neighbors who tired of roaming cats in their yards fed him poison, or teenagers got him high with drugs or something, and he didn't take it well... kids are crushed.

Be careful with your pets...

Side note: Dogs make better pets, but require more attention. Cats could care less that they belong to you, cuz they think you belong to them.

cats:

they are much smarter and you dont have to walk them every day

have no preferences, love all animals as same.
But can handle better with dogs as with cats. Cat's character is too similar to mine and we can become conflicts.
