How much of that is trying to pay respect to a legend in his final season? Players say a lot of strange things. MJ's draft record should suggest that great players don't always make great talent evaluators.

Heck, Kareem just said that Dirk was a one-trick pony.
[Edited 2/5/16 14:47pm]

But they've been saying that for years. And Dirk is a one trick pony. Just so happens that the trick is scoring and he's closingnout on being a top scorer all time.

Well, saying that Kobe was better than LeBron in 2008 is different to saying his career is better overall now. LeBron has been a more dominant player since at least 2009 (I'd say earlier), and he has had a long enough career now for that to matter.

If Kobe really was better, you'd think there would be 1 statistic in his favor. But there isn't. All favor LeBron, and some by quite a margin...

I'm not a Bron fan, but I recognize that he's knocking on the door of the top 5.

As for Dirk, he does a lot more than score. He is a very good passer and rebounder as well.

Of course stats wise LeBron will have an edge. Kobe was behind Eddie Jones his first few years in the league and he's been injured the past few seasons. Eye test tells me Kobe is better. I've seen more games coming down to the wire where LeBron shrivels up or defers to Bobbie Gibson or Mo Williams or Wade. And Kobe lives for those moments.

Dirk as a 7 footer never avg over 10 boards in a season.

So LeBron should be punished for being more durable and for being able to contribute immediately out of high school? The other stuff is just narrative. LeBron is a more willing passer than Kobe, and that's a good thing. And Kobe's clutch statistics are not something I would bring up in his favor...

Dirk is a stretch 4. You can't expect him to gobble up a ton of rebounds, but he does pretty well, and really ramps up his rebounding in the postseason.

I'm not punishing Bron. Sometimes LeBron passes at the wrong time when he should be taking over. LeBron should be outside of the top ten and Kobe inside it.

And not even hating on Dirk, I'm surprised ESPN has him inside the top 20. Thought they would have had him around the early 20s.

I think LeBron makes far better decisions than Kobe. The stats bear that out in the clutch as well.

Nothing seems too egregious here, though I think Stockton is a bit too high. Looks like ESPN and I share 9 of the same top 10, though I won't take any pride in that given how wonky I think most of their list is.

I'd take Pippen over all of these guys except Moses Malone. Pippen was a better defensive player that everyone on this list.

Scottie Pippen. The guy who subbed himself out of the game because Phil Jackson ran the last play for Toni Kukoc. The guy who missed game 7 of the 1990 East Finals because of a "headache." Lol.

Yes...the guy with 6 rings, just under 23,000 points and the best small forward defensive player in history. Lol......

Pippen is way under 23,000. I think he has around 17,000. Sam Jones has 10 but not anywhere near Pippen when he should be.

Of the top 20 players Russell, Wilt, Olajuwon, West, Duncan, Jordan and David Robinson are better defenders. If they have Garnett in the 20, he's better too.

So of your top 20 only 8 are better defensive players, yet Scottie is a better defensive players than the other 12 and he isn't top 20. That is interesting........

But Scottie is the worst offensive players of everyone here. Does offense not matter? If I need a go-to bucket, he's the last on the list.

And guys like Kareem, Robertson, both Malone's, Kobe, Bird are not bad defenders by any stretch. Dirk and Barkley are the worse in top 20 but they're no James Harden.

His lack of shots is becuasem of his better known teammate. Lack of shots isn't the same as lack of skills. All of those other guys were stars in highschool and college. Scottieswas an unknown until he developed in the NBA.

List continues to be a joke. LeBron over Shaq and Duncan. Bron lost to Duncan twice in the Finals (almost three times. Got saved by #49 on the list after clanking a 3 pointer and #86 getting the rebound.)
