I know right!!??? I would think it would be good and molded by the time it reaches the buyer.

..LOL...I called all the Walmart Supercenters in the metro and they're all out..Bakery Lady said all the stores had extra Patti-Pies in their warehouse and those sold out....The small city I live in is basically a Senior Citizen Mecca..I figured this one particular super-store would have a full stock of Patti pies..I was wrong...

With a little help from an effusive fan's viral video, the diva's sweet potato pies went on sale exclusively at Walmart last weekend. The pies, which sell at a retail price of $3.98, quickly sold out in locations across the country.

Scott Markley, a spokesperson for Walmart, told CNBC that despite the scarcity, the retailer has not completely sold out of Labelle's pies. However, he cited "incredible demand" for the product.

"We are moving pies from stores where they are still available to stores where there are unavailable, and moving them out of distribution centers as quickly as possible," Markley said. While he declined to give exact figures of how much in sales the baked good managed to ring up, he said that consumers snapped up the equivalent of 1 pie per second in the first 72 hours they were available.

The pie "is now the second-most searched item on Walmart.com next to turkeys," Markey said, adding that "search results for 'pies' went up by 2,000 percent" on the company's website. He also said Walmart had 2 million pounds of sweet potatoes already set for the next batch, suggesting the next scarcity could be in the root vegetable.

You know what's funny? Not one orger has said whether the pies are really all that good. All I see is people will go beserk almost over anything if the right celebrity's name is on it. Patti's know for her cooking, so the pies must be worth it. But I'm sorry, all I can think is another processed product chocked full of preservatives, not appetizing to me at all. I'm perfectly capable of making my own with the freshest ingredients I can find, even down to the sweetener from fresh sugarcane if i wanted it but it won't hold up well shipping it anywhere so i guess I'll suffer the indignity of my own stuff. I wish her much success with it, obviously it's doing quite well if they can't keep it in stores.

Well that's 'cuz not one orger can find one to taste. Unless you want us to go on ebay to get one of them 175 dollar pies.


Seriously though, I use B. Smith's pie recipe and it comes out delish every single time....I don't like my sweet potato pie too sweet.

I may get around to trying one of Patti's someday out of curiosity.


eta, Btw, it's not her original recipe from what I heard. She basically licensed her name to wal mart.
