Have you ever tried to eat healthy?

I am trying to eat healthy and yeah I have failed a few times giggle

I am eating very little red meat. Having chicken and fish. Lots of greens, vegetables and of course fruits. And I have been on a soup binge this last 2 weeks......... now is soup really healthy such as those that are in the store and claim to be healthy? I have not tried home made soups except for chicken noodle.

It is not hard cutting out junk food such as pop, chips, chocolate.

I drink 2% milk, tea, water.

good for you. diet is like medicine - get it right and you're healthy. get it wrong and you're sick.

.

i cut out junk food almost entirely over a year ago and have been avoiding fast food/restaurants. although sometimes i eat at chipotle. i have a pretty limited diet, due to gluten sensitivity/food allergy. overall i just feel better when i avoid bread and full-on wheat products.

.

eating right means i have to shop at several stores. i eat a lot of rice cracker type snacks now, instead of potato chips and cheetos. (which i miss!). i allow myself one day a week to eat anything i want. also, protein/vitamin supplements are important so i get mine from a chiropractor who orders in bulk. lots of water is key!

.

i kinda want to take a cooking class and learn some mediterranean dishes; they say that's the best overall diet to follow. olive oil instead of butter, and tricks like that to keep our arteries clean

You have to be careful with a lot of the supermarket soups. They can have very high salt content. Try to stay away from canned soups or those powder things that say to just add water. The best kind of soup you can eat is homemade vegetable soup.

I do eat healthy, but I still overeat.

One can get fat from healthy food too.

And I find it very hard to discipline myself and skip food that I know is not good for me.

My body isn't designed to break off histamine very well. So, I have milk thistle capsules, but still, I should be considerate with chocolate, cheese, wine and other high histamine food.

I crace chocolate and last weekend I ate a lot of it. And eventhough I know my body does not respond well to cheese, I was yearning it, and I bought a big block of cheese.

So, eventhough I mostly eat healthy, I still pig out on forbidden fruits.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Yes, and it costs too much when you're living paycheck to paycheck. Hot dogs are way cheaper than baked chicken or fish. lol

I've made this dal recipe a few times and its really good. Its very healthy with the ginger, garlic and turmeric and other spices and split peas are cheap. I usually will make a big stock pot and freeze some for later as it keeps well. Yum

Thanks for the advice on the supermarket soups. That's it, I won't buy those anymore. I used to have ramen noodles but they are high in salt. I agree, homemade is certainly the best.

I have given up so much meat because it is so expensive, I might as well become a vegetarian (again!)!! The funny thing is when I was a vergetarian in my youth, I packed the weight on. Now, when I am older I actually have trouble keeping weight on and I eat meat. eek

To eat healthy you have to learn how to cook. Prep and clean up is a pain. Then couple that with having obnoxious taste bud, you have a problem. The concept of preparing things in advance when taste and texture changes in some foods in a relatively short time of cutting into them or freezing them is useless. You end up wasting costly food because you throw it away because you won't eat it. One must be committed to the change because it's not easy nor convenient. It's just better.

I used to eat like a pig. Don't get me wrong, I still have my moments but these days I keep it mostly healthy. Before, I'd be one of those people who just stuffed their face with burgers, chips, bacon, chocolate, sweets. It was only when I moved out and lived alone that I started eating right. Maybe it's because I'm the one buying stuff, as opposed to my mum doing all the shopping when I lived at home. It took a long time to get used to the tastes and textures of healthy food. But it's worth the difficult start. I'm 2 stone lighter than I was before (I think I might be a tad underweight, if I'm honest) my blood pressure is normal(ish) and my cholesterol is spot on. My advice to anyone who is looking to change their eating habits is do it gradually. If you try to change too much too fast you'll be more likely to go back to eating junk food. That was my experience anyway. Boiled chicken breast and homemade vegetable soup. That's the ticket! smile

Food is very important to me and I make sure that I eat a lot of healthy food but unfortunately I also still eat stuff that´s bad for me but I´m thinking of reducing the bad stuff, such as white bread (toast), refined sugar in my coffee and other simple carbs (like eating pasta at the wrong time when I don´t really need the energy).

There are some things I try to eat as often as possible, some even on a daily basis, regardless of cost or effort:

Healthy eating and fitness should never be a phase or part of a new year´s resolution but always be a constant part of your lifestyle, like breathing and sleeping. But even those two activities are often not done the way they ought to be done. I eat healthy but I do have my vices and temptations, and I also have to learn to eat the right things at the right time in the right amount.

I also make sure that I work out at least three times a week, or more, and I swim a lot during the summer season. And a healthy sex life is important, too. And happiness at your workplace. And good friends and family.....we all neglect those who are dear to us as we get older and busier. neutral

I grew up eating margerine because butter was supposed to be so bad for you. Go figure. For the past 15 years I've used butter, but reduced amounts. I primarily have been using extra virgin olive oil or grapeseed oil. Fruit has never been a problem. Getting enough vegetables is a concentrated effort since one needs almost 2x more of those than fruit. I don't like bread that much, beyond eating a sandwich I never pay much attention to it at meal times. Dairy outside of cheese is a no, even yogurt is a no. Protein is easy, but oddly complex carbohydrates are difficult. I always gravitate to the simple sugars and then over indulge. Staying away from as much processed food as possible including the "healthy" stuff is difficult because its so readily available. I still feel best when I make the effort. It just feels like a second job sometimes, which it shouldn't, it should be second nature but its not. It requires thought, planning and budgeting, consistently.

I don't understand the question, to be honest. It isn't like "eating healthy" is an all or nothing proposition.

I've discovered that keeping a good collection of vision boards oon Pinterest really helps me a lot. Hubby became a vegetarian this summer and rather than freak out about how I'd adapt my cooking style or resources, I just started pinning away like crazy for a couple days making sure the recipes were at least whole food based. Now I just go to the board everyday and just click on a recipe for lunch or dinner, and just add a side of protein for myself. Looking at all the gorgeous photos get me psyched to get in the kitchen and make something healthy that I'll also know will be yummy...and once you build some fridge and pantry staples that you always have on hand, it makes it easy to just snatch a recipe and throw something together.
