Davis is charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated arson and the court was shown gruesome images of the crime scene as his trial began on Monday.

According to prosecutors, Davis, his mother and brother went to see the comedy movie, The Campaign on August 10 and then returned home.

Melanie Davis went to sleep at 9pm, 'not knowing that her younger son was planning something sinister, something unspeakable.'

In testimony given to the court by Major Don Linzy, Chief of Detectives at the Sumner County Sheriff's Office, Davis confessed after he was apprehended at a convenience store eight miles away, having fled the scene.

'Yes, sir, I killed my mom in her sleep with a sledgehammer,' Linzy told the court on Tuesday according to the Tennessean.

Linzy said that during his interview Davis was asked why he killed his mother with a sledgehammer and replied, 'I was worried that I'd miss,' and that using that type of weapon gave him the 'highest chance of killing her.'

seems the teen in the first story (oisted by op) is not considered as being emotionally or mentally disturbed. i wonder if he is? for him to act out so violently, he's got to have some emotional issues. as with the teen zachary davis.

both acts of violence are equally wrong.

I'd like to address a topic that this video clearly illustrates...

Our society, and our children, have little Empathy and have lost touch with Reality.

In school I saw fights. Not the type of fights where people try to kill each other, but rather, "normal" schoolyard fights.

There was usually alot of braggadoccio, then someone wound up getting their @ss beat.

WHAT I SAW in that video, was NOT a fight. That was either a student trying to kill a peer, or a student so out of touch with reality that he did not realize that what he was doing could end with lethal consequences.

Seriously. The after the first - maybe second - blow, the kid was out. Done. Fight over.

SO, WHY does the brute keep clobbering him? What purpose was served to keep going when the other kid is limp in his arms? MY OPINION on the matter? No empathy, and lack of realization of the reality of what is going on. Why? Too many video Games? Too many gruesome movies? Too many violent YouTube skits? Too many UFC/MMA pay-per-views? Too many steroids?
I dunno. Need a sociologist/doctor to figure that out. BUT the end result is horrific.

IMO it's not any one thing, rather a combination of factors that has produced a gradual decline over a period of time.

But the real issue is not that a teen can be a threat or not - everyone knows they can be, it's that teens (particularly black teens) are automatically being labelled a threat by police.

Again, anyone can still be a serious threat without a weapon...and no one disputes this.

Again this topic is about the misnomer that an unharmed teen can not pose a threat of serious harm. So your point of mental illness supports the op. A person is ill that has little if any bearing (moral or legal) on us of force needed to stop them. So thank you for supporting my point.
