I never understood why people always want threads locked. Threads that are not innapropriate and stay on topic. Basically "I no longer want to read this thread so I don't want anyone else too either" if you don't like it or are butthurt because your own beliefs have been questioned, feel free to sling your hook. The fact of the matter is, people do believe this stuff and it's fun and interesting to look at the model and see what aspects are consistent with reality and what aspects of any fail to match our reality. It's a fun thought experiment. XxAxX, I've noticed that you're very uncomfortable with having strange beliefs questioned or inaccuracies pointed out. Why? How do you learn and improve your understanding of things if all sides can't be discussed. You got very angry and abusive last year when I tried to provide evidence to refute your belief in a hollow earth. If someone puts forward a controversial topic then attempted refutation will follow. If you feel more comfortable in an echo chamber there's plenty of sites that would work for you. But I'd encourage you to stay here, view both sides of a topic and be prepared to learn something.

That's a bit rich coming from you sweetheart. Please don't get up to your usual thread derailing antics. If you're no longer interested in discussing the topic I suggest you find one more to your tastes.

Funkcreep if you're still here. How does the visual clue to a global earth being sunrise and sunset work with the flat earth model?
If the sun is 3000 miles above us at midday, how far away is it at sunset, presumably 9000 thousand miles (3 up and 6 along) why doesn't its size therefore appear to be a third of the size it is at midday*

*lighten up people. This is a real belief so these questions need answering to fit the model. I just want to know how much of the model can work
In theory whether it's true or not. If you're no longer interested then you're just a click away from not having to deal with it.

I think I'm supposed to be insulted but not sure why. Never mind please do stay. It is a fun thread. I've learnt a lot about a belief I always thought was just a joke. Normally I only get that from your posts. wink

I've found no claims of this anywhere other than flat earth conspiracy sites so it's likely just another false claim like the one about flights from Sydney to Santiago that go via the U.S or Canada. They don't exist. I know about the flight routes so it's easy to debunk but the maths involved of what should or shouldn't be seen at various distances is beyond me so I've not worked it out. Here's a link to what should be possible though. If those maths are correct then a lighthouse viewed from 150 miles away from a ship would seem impossible.

Visionnaire

Yesterday, I heard two teenagers insulting each other with "Yo mama" jokes.
One kid said to another "Oh yeah? Well yo mama so fat, da Earth was round before she came along!"
Now, obviously, it wasn't all that funny.
But these two teens were college kids (I caught 'em just as they were walking off campus grounds).
And whenever college teens are particpating in a "Yo Mama" insult challenge, they're sharp enough to know that they can cause the most amount of psychological damage (that's how you win a "Yo Mama" challenge, by causing the most of amount of psychological damage to your opponent) if the insults that they hurl contain some element of truth in 'em.
Now I'm not saying that it proves what the flatists claim,
but I do feel that it is worthy of further discussion.

That's actually by far the best evidence presented for a flat earth so far and that's more of a commentary on what's been presented so far.

okay maybe it's not impossible that our human perception of 'round' is distorted and actually our world is more like a slice of a sphere; some say it's possible the universe folds in layers. so maybe in a relative-dimension kind of way the earth could be considered to be flat, as we do not yet know how to measure more than six? dimensions, and some say there are 64 dimensions? nor do we truly understand our place therein. however for me personally, given the multiple examples of spherical shapes forming everywhere around us in our observable physical world and the fact that the formation of matter into spherical shapes also appears to be the norm in other spiral galaxies, i would have to say i believe that the earth is round. thank you. that is all.

Now, that's the answer to the question I asked earlier in this thread (that went unanswered) about what would happen if the ice walls enclosing the ocean(s) would melt. lol Of course, global warming is probably a global lie, too, made up by global conspirators... razz lol

Global conspirators have been BS'ing us for hundreds of years...evolution, global earth, moon landing, 9/11, recent fake shootings etc... When will you people wake up?

Lust, I beleive it's similar to a spotlight, and then the further away the sun gets from the land it was shining on, by definition, it's going to get darker. I have a good video if your interested in it. I don't wanna take the time to find one then your not even gonna watch it.

Did you watch the video proving usiging trigonometry that the sun is nowhere near 93 million miles away from us? If so, what is your take on that video. Was his trigonomertry correct?

I don't know what % of the population believes in a flat earth. I'm sure it's very small..I would guess 1%-3%.

Evolution, flat earth, The Federal Reserve Banks, The World Wars, Fake Moon Landing...it's all been a scam on us..the general population to control us, to scare us.

But back to more evidence for a flat earth.

In the ball-Earth model Antarctica is an ice continent which covers the bottom of the ball from 78 degrees South latitude to 90 and is therefore not more than 12,000 miles in circumference. Many early explorers including Captian Cook and James Clark Ross, however, in attempting Antarctic circumnavigation took 3 to 4 years and clocked 50-60,000 miles around. The British ship Challenger also made an indirect but complete circumnavigation of Antarctica traversing 69,000 miles. This is entirely inconsistent with the ball model.
