I really wanted to like this movie. I really, really gave it a chance....but it is so utterly slow and boring!

I haven´t watched the Steven Soderbergh version with George Clooney yet (and I don´t think I ever will, unless it´s on TV), but I remember that George Clooney flipped out when a journalist called his version of Solaris boring....but I bet compared to the classic version the Soderbergh version is probably more interesting.

This one is extremely slooooooooooooow and meandering, the actors don´t look charismatic or interesting at all, the score sucks, and the director focuses on stuff like plants or clouds or waves for what seems like an eternity.

I know Solaris is considered a sci-fi masterpiece, some even call it THE most interesting, most intellectual and BEST sci-fi film ever so that´s why I went and looked for it (mind you, it is from the early 1970s) but words can´t describe how boring I found it while watching.

No disrespect to the late Tarkovsky but this one really didn´t grab me at all.

I tried watching this movie once and fell asleep. But like you said, it's considered to be a sci-fi classic, one of the most critically acclaimed movies ever made so I will give it another chance one day when I'm wide awake. The other Tarkovsky movies I've seen, Andrei Rublev and The Mirror are similarly hard to penetrate, but I did find them interesting ultimately.

I fell asleep for maybe 20 minutes, too. wink Really difficult to get into this film. I thought I´d give The Mirror or maybe Stalker a try one day but for now, I don´t think I will watch them anytime soon.

Came across this on crackle.com (free movies [with commercials]; Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee; etc.).

Had seen it years ago (probably when it came out), but decided to give it another whirl.

MINUSES:

  • Looks like shit (flat photography and almost amateurish camera-set-ups and editing choices; some unflattering makeup and lighting)

  • Unnatural dialogue, which was at least partially responsible for...

  • Performances that were mostly stilted and unnatural

  • Ludicrous denouement

  • Joey Lauren Adams' voice

PLUSSES:

  • Some very funny lines (even if they don't sound like real people talking)

  • It was entertaining and there was some genuine insight into the human psyche.

I'd forgotten how politically-incorrect this film was! eek Do you think a comedy movie today could get away with heterosexual characters using words like "faggot" and "dyke"? And/or a white filmmaker using that kind of racial humor?

Maybe I'm just sentimental for this movie for personal reasons, but I love it. Definitely Kevin Smith's best... and you don't think Joey's voice is absolutely adorable?! lol

I'm gonna watch this tonight

Four of Hearts 3/5 though not a cinematic masterrpiece still a decent kick back and watch movie withrout getting overly dramatic with the type of characters I might encounter in my everyday life.

The Judge 3/5 a bit slow but with RDJ and Robert Duvall its no slouch in the acting department which was nice, no new ground in its plot but for me still enjoyable with a touch of humor in a serious story.

The Loft 1.5/5 I knew from the trailer the actors more or less phoned in their roles but I was hoping for a bit of eye candy from one particular actor, unfortunately I already saw all the eye candy there was for me in promotional shots. Oh well, it was nice looking at him anyways.

Mr. Turner 2/5 I'm sure if you know this artist then this movie was insightful even perhaps moving, the critics loved it, I didn't know this artist and after seeing this movie I feel no desire to find out anything about his art. He seemed pretty typical of a man allowed certain privileges because of his talent, pretty much ssdd in my eyes.

Maybe I'm being too hard on her little, baby voice. And the movie was very entertaining and very funny. But I thought the "solution" the Affleck character proposed - and Lee's character's reaction to it - were about as likely to happen in real life as Santa fucking the Easter Bunny. razz

Let me know what you thought of it the second time around! Curious to hear your thoughts!

Aside of the fact that I am a fan of the Marvel Universe, this superhero movie was funny and lighter than the norm and Paul Rudd is as charming as ever. Evangeline Lily, Michael Douglas and Michael Pena lead a great supporting cast and provide Rudd with plenty to play off of in terms of funny dialogue.

Definintley popcorn fair - but you have to be of comic book like mind to really enjoy as it requires quite the stretch of the imagnation. I totally look forward to seeing Antman work with the Avengers in upcoming films. And as always - stay through the end credits for clues in upcoming Marvel movies ("Captain America: Civil War")

Not a bad movie but not excellent either. Plot was way too cliche'...it was like Rocky III - V wrapped up into one. Don't get me wrong, seeing a boxer have it all only to lose it all is realistic but how many times have we seen that? Nonetheless, my man Jake Gyllenhaal was amazing. Forest Whitaker was good too but his character reminded me of Mickey and Duke combined. That said, had the writing of the script and storyline been better, the movie could had possibly been stronger.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Beyond the Lights 3.5/5 never would have picked this from Netflix if it hadn't have been for Ms. T.Due. Nice little romantic fantasy (and I do mean fantasy), that girl from "Belle" can sing. Didn't recognize her until she took the weave out.

Sharknado 3 - Oh Hell No!

oh boy, so much to my surprise I DID find myself watching it yesterday evening.

even more over the top and filled with nonsense than the last two. but worth watching just for playing "how much cameo appearences can you spot?" Unbelievable. There were dozens of folks popping up left and right, I can't remember a movie with so many, really. Amost every role who has at least one line of dialouge is some more or less known celebrity, including some you might not expect, cause it requires some minimum humour to participate. I don't want to give to much spoilers here, just let me add that sadly Ann Coulter and Michelle Bachman survived razz my fave scene? when that shark came out of nowhere and killed some random guy. great plot twist, if ever there was one!

1/5 stars for the cameos confused lol

Just no. Awful. Fails completely even as an intentionally stupid and bad film.

Ok, here it is:

"Sharkando 3 - Oh Hell No!" More like

OH HELL YEAH!

Am I right?!?

Well, I am for the first 15 minutes. Because those first 15 minutes ROCK THA HOUSE! They are perfect! But then it's like whoever wrote that part had to go to the bathroom, and some other dude takes over writing the rest of the movie. And THAT guy wouldn't let the first guy back into the writing process.

Case in point - Ann Coulter is the Vice President. What a hag! No one, and I mean NO ONE likes this witch. So she takes up with Mark McGrath, who is also someone no one likes. Yeah! I can't wait for the sharks to munch down on these two losers!

Except they never do. THOSE TWO REAL-LIFE PINATAS GET TOTALLY FORGOTTEN ABOUT. WTF?!?

Same with Cubes a/k/a Mark Cuban a/k/a my new hero. He's AWESOME as the president but again - he's only in the first scene; he does NOT get eaten; but he never shows up again. Uncool!

After the first 15 minutes or so, this movie really drags. It's not stupid and it's not clever. And believe me, those are two different things. A very smart person once said there's a thin line between stupid and clever. And whatever that thin line is, it's where most of "Sharknado 3" treads water.

Perfect example:

The male comic foil is Malcolm from "Malcolm in the Middle". You know - Walter White's first TV son. He's really pretty cool, and his death is the only one that you cheer. He ends up on top of an Urban Assault Vehicle, trying to hit a Doomsday button to end a particularly bad Sharkando. But sharks keep eating his limbs as he gets close to the button. He loses a leg, then an arm, then another leg, then his other arm until he's basically third base (I apologize to everyone who gets offended by that reference to a really bad, really old joke. Which should be all of you. Sorry.). It's awesome!

But to offset that, we have the female comic foil/eye candy, Nova (played by Cassie Scerbo). She's pretty hot and the director dresses her up in a very revealing black top - and then covers that top with weaponry for most of the movie. I mean, if you're gonna go there, go there. You know?

The Hoff shows up as an astronaut who somehow ends up on the Moon (I fell asleep a couple minutes while Gill and Fin were flying a secret space shuttle. Gill and Fin - get it? Ugh.). I think while I was asleep, The Hoff did something that destroyed the Monster Sharknado, but who knows?

And who knows what the entire cast of NBC's "Today Show" was thinking this time? They aren't funny at all, except for one scene where Kathy Lee and Hoda Lee show everyone how drunk they are. Al Roker even resorts to copying lines from "Sharknado 2 - the Next One" but they are lines that were only funny once. At least everyone but Kathy Lee and Hoda Lee got eaten by sharks. Maybe in the next movie, we can see if George Stephonopolous can be funny!

And yes, there will be a "Sharknado 4 - What The F*** Do They Do This Time?" (that's my prediction of the title). Before they film it, you can vote on whether Tara Reid lives or dies. Honestly, I don't care.

This one only gets 2 sharks out of 5 sharks, unless you only watch the first 15 minutes, in which case it gets 5 out of 5 sharks!

Should be called Derivative. I've not read any of the books, and am not going to, but the film is unoriginal, has a highly stupid setting filled with poor characters being badly acted. Generally, it's irrepressibly drab and awful.

Ant-Man is fun & I'm disappointed it's not doing better at the box office. Yes, it's #1, but that will only last another week, until the next Mission Impossible film comes out. It's different from other Marvel films, in that the world isn't in jeopardy, it's fun, & lighter. Unfortunately, it's also about a character that isn't as widely known as some of the heavier hitters, but people should know by now that Marvel has a gameplan & these stories all intersect. Even casual fans who only see The Avengers movies are missing out if they blow this one off.

Mr. Holmes - starring Ian McKellen as an elderly version as the titular detective & Laura Linney as his financially beleaugered housekeeper. McKellen is actually acting here, not hidden beneath the robes of a wizard, & plays Holmes as a man facing all the challenges of aging, while forced to live with the blessings & curses of the fame of his younger days. At the same time, he is struggling to solve a final mystery & has the help of the housekeeper's young son to do so.

I saw this movie at a cinema in a Jewish neighborhood on opening weekend and the place was jam packed. I still see movies frequently at the same place and to this day it has never been as crowded as it was that weekend. The film itself is pretty good. I gave it a 3.5/5 when I first posted it.

The last new movie I watched was Inside Out. Great movie. I was very skeptical when I first saw the trailer, thinking "they're out of ideas", but honestly it's up there with the best of the Pixar movies. Very original and well thought out.

.

The last at-home movie I watched a few days ago was Nightstalker. Dark and twisted, great acting especially by Jake Gyllenhall.

This is a really sloooooooow and at times weird movie. It has a strong retro feel that I liked very much, the storyline is not very easy to follow but not as bad as some people think (most critics loved this movie while others called it "Incoherent Mess". I was surprised to see how many of those critics who disliked this movie used the word "incoherent vice" or "incoherent messs" to describe it. I mean, ok, we get it , inherent rhymes with incoherent, but hey , it wasn´t THAT incoherent in my opinion.

I actually expected it to be so much better than what it what it actually is. Like I said, I liked the retro feel and how director Paul Thomas Anderson captured that magic and feel of 1970s California in this movie, with all those vintage cars, the beach and surf culture, the weed afficionados and drug culture in general, and the hippie movement.

And I usually like Anderson and support him because I like that he is an autodidact who taught himself everything he needs to be a good director but I must admit that this one is not really one of his strongest films. In fact, it might be one of his slowest and most boring, but it is still worth watching. And it is not only extremely slow but also very long, almost three hours, so that brings out the boring qualities even more....I mean there are several scenes where you see not much else besides Joaquin Phoenix looking at his very dirty feet and rubbing his feet with his hands. So it is really a bit of a strange movie. lol

I already knew that ex-pornqueen Belladonna was in it but was a bit disappointed to see that her only scene lasted no longer than a few minutes.

This movie has many, many stars in it, but then again, maybe a tad too many because random characters pop up, become interesting, and then disappear again and you get the feeling that the fact that they are in the movie is more about them being in the movie and not so much because they add anything to it.

Josh Brolin is great though.....his role is a bit over the top and stereotypical but I enjoyed watching him and his characeter´s idiosyncracies.

Three out of five stars, depending on your mood and your weed intake while watching this movie.

weed weed weed

Edit: I added all those different movie posters because they look so interesting and I wish the movie would´ve been as interesting as all the posters suggest it is, but alas, I was a bit disappointed. However, I liked the look and feel of the movie ( though it looks much grayer and cloudier and dirtier than the posters suggest).
