'Star Trek' actress Nichelle Nichols reportedly suffered stroke

Nichelle Nichols was rushed to a hospital Wednesday night after suffering a mild stroke, TMZ reports.

The actress, best known for playing Lieutenant Uhura in "Star Trek," is awake and resting at an L.A. hospital, her rep told the gossip site.

The 82-year-old is being monitored by doctors who are trying to determine the severity of the stroke.

Nichols appeared on both "Star Trek" television shows as well as six of the movies.

Nichelle Nichols has had both a CAT scan and an MRI today. The CAT scan came back negative and we are awaiting the results from the MRI. Currently she is awake, eating, in good spirits and able to have full conversations. Her right side has shown minor signs or mobility loss but she is not showing any signs of paralyses.

We greatly appreciate all of the love and support her fans are showing at this time.

Nichelle Nichols will be released from West Hills Hospital this afternoon. She is doing very well and the doctors have high hopes for a rapid recovery with in home physical therapy. She is saddened to have to cancel this weekends appearance at Eternal Con but plans to get back on the road as soon as possible and has every intention of making it to FLORIDA SUPERCON in Miami, FL June 26-28, 2015.

I heard she is doing wonderfully.

She said she doesn't remember what happened and that not remembering was a coping mechanism for her. Or denial is coping.

Damn...I hope she is doing well.

Nichelle Nichols, Star Trek's legendary Uhura, is recovering from her recent stroke -- and she's doing so at warp speed. The actress gave her millions of fans worldwide a scare after being hospitalized on June 3, but she's already back home, undergoing physical therapy and she even granted an interview toEntertainment Tonight that aired on Monday.


"I am feeling the best that I've felt in a very long time," Nichols said, smiling broadly. "I have this thing about so-called sickness. I can't say it about everything, but I've always felt, since I was a little girl, that if you deny it, it will go away. And it does."
