16 days sober.....

from fast food. That's right, have to kick the habit. I've been doing way too much eating out in the past few months and have watched my waistline get bigger and my wallet get smaller. I'm trying to take the steps in getting back to eating right and cooking my own foods. thumbs up!

Anyone else getting sober??? coffee

It will be 3 years in July.... that my whole family kicked the pop / soda habit. These days I mostly drink water but anything that nature prodcue I'll drink... apple / grape/ orange, grapefruit juice, lemonade, and tea. I always have a batch of sun tea the fridge; we are lucky enought to still have a local dairy that produces the juices I mentioned at their plant, no additives.

That's great! I've never really been a huge soda drinker myself. If I do have a soda, it's a Sprite or a Ginger Ale. Give me some fresh cold water any day to drink. It's so refreshing. biggrin

I haven't eaten a Big Mac in years myself. Mostly I would go from a Quarter Pounder with cheese or a Single with cheese from Wendy's. With medium fries of course. confused My go to pig out fast food obsession is Papa John's pizza...the one thing that does pack on the pounds on my 5'2 frame. disbelief If I'm having a bad day, I skip the gym, go home, sit on the couch and pull up the Papa John's app to order a pizza for delivery. Time to change that disasterous move.

Well I'm trying my hardest not to look at it as a "diet" per se. Once I do that, I mess up after a few days, then I keep feeling like I'm "starting over" and that I'm not making any progress. Frustration sets in and then I'm off the wagon. So this time, I'm looking at it as making a lifestyle habit change. The only thing processed I'm eating right now are protein bars to snack in between breakfast/lunch and lunch/dinner...otherwise, I'll mess up. I have my george foreman grill handy to grill boneless/skinless chicken breasts and I bought tons of summer squash to saute' with white onions and olive oil. Then I have my fruits, fresh strawberries, blueberries, pinepples and apples. That's it.

I made up my mind to commit to staying away from fast food and red meat.

thumbs up!

Yeah I actually don't say that "I'm on a diet" but rather "I'm supposed to be eating better". Less pressure, lol.

I've adjusted to smaller portions, which is a b!tch at the beginning b/c you are left hungry after eating...but soon your stomach adjusts and a half-plate of food is more than enough.

I kicked my Coke addiction (not the white kind from Colombia, the black kind from Atlanta) about 5 years ago. I used to drink 2 -3 bottles of Coca-Cola a DAY. I cut back to 1 a day, then to 1 or 2 a week. Now, I'm trying to stay away from the stuff. It's amazing that when I do have some, a sip or two is more than enough, and I'm left craving water.

I admire what you are doing and wish I could do it. I am way too big and its partly due to my weekly or twice weekly junk food lunch fixes.

.

The problem with McD's, Burger Sling, KFC is that shit is addiqtive, I am sure they put some chemicals and shit in that hooks you up to wanting that shit.

Getting crazy ass cravings about eating a Maccas burger every few days is not healthy.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Haven't eaten fast food in 15 years, for this very reason. I try my best to get up earlier, and make my own lunch. Fast food will kill you, and dry out your pockets, at the same time...

Well the whole "cooking everyday" routine isn't my thing. I guess that's lazy since I'm not married and have no kids. lol What works best for me is cooking my food for the whole week on a Sunday so that I'm able to just grab and go during the week.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Cravings can be quite terrible. I'm extremely terrible when it comes to bread and sweets, but when I lost weight before and cut out the fast food and cut down on the sweets, I noticed that I didn't crave it as much. Perhaps my body got used to it. And I'm also terrible when it comes to portion control. So since I've kicked fast food to the side, it's easier to get portions straight when you cook your own food. It's weird, I find it much easier to eat better during the summer than in the winter. Maybe because the major holiday's occur during the wintertime? shrug

I should clarify. I will cook on Sunday, and it will last me 2 days. I will get up and make my own breakfast every morning, instead of going into Macdonalds or Burger King. I've also upp'd my water intake so, I don't feel as hungry.

Oh I see. Gotcha! thumbs up! I'm touch and go with breakfast. Some mornings I'm not that hungry and can get by with an apple and a protein bar or fresh blueberries and greek yogurt, but other mornings, I have to have some egg whites with cheese and turkey bacon. So it depends. Guess I'm just funny that way. biggrin

Hearing Taco Bell say they are going to start using real black pepper instead of black pepper flavoring in their food, has really given me the side-eye on a whole lot of things. I mean it's black pepper, if you've ever had to fake that, then everything else has been up for fakery. Eat real food has been my adopted mantra for a while now.

Technically it is but like all things, tea should be consumed in moderation. We had a thread here a couple of weeks ago about a guy who suffered kidney failure because he drank too much tea.

Why did I (we) stop drinking soda? After reading report after medical report that the stuff wasn't good for you, I kicked the habit. Diet Pepsi gave me heartburn and the amout of sugar in each can of soda isn't health and adds to weight gain. What its all said in done, soda is a "man" made drink... its not healthy. So, I drink a glass of water with each meal and between each meal. Lunch and dinner I'll have a cold tea and I like hot water and lemon too.

second: i was in the Army and it was taco night and I told the cook "this is just like mom used to make" and he said "oh was she a good cook" well my smart ass side took over and i said "No..." and he got this look on his face...but i saved it "she was really bad at everything except mexican food." (I went on to say she was raised in Texas and we had moved to New England and then Florida and at the time there were no good tex-mex places... so she learned to cook that one thing...
