Middle Age. So, middle age? When does it begin? (And end) I really don't know. Numbers would be useful. Feel free to elaborate. Young as y'feel reciters need not apply. small circles, big wheels!

Very much a moving target, and understand the term is relative to life expectancy and life-stage patterns observed in a fairly small group of industrialized countries. That said, I think the general idea is middle age falls between 45ish to 60ish. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Thanks for the responses fellas.
I'm 45 n a half years of age now. I've always lived how I've felt n among other things that's mostly timeless. Folks who've had a mind to guess my age have always, for whatever reason, guessed that I'm younger. I'm a mostly solo musician/performer, always challenging myself to become better than I've evr been, n I get my kicks this way. I come into contact with plenty of performers, too often some of them are intimidated by me. I'm not completely sure why in every case but it's usually because I'm relatively, well, just old, or I'm loud at being good at what I do. Well this impression that I get from lesser mortals bothers me bye n bye. I've heard performers apologizing on stage for various things, being drunk, out of practice, tired, influenced by hiphop, and also for not being under an uncertain age. Sounds mad. There's no reference to it in the contract n the whole thing is perplexing, it'd be better to be completely oblivious to this wayward kind thinken' but I must admit I am not. Rightly said: So, middle age? When does it begin? (And end) I really don't know. Numbers would be useful. Feel free to elaborate. Young as y'feel reciters need not apply. It started after the fall of the Roman Empire. (Although exactly when that happened is debatable.) It ended with the Renaissance. (Although exactly when that happened is debatable as well.) Did this help? Probably not. But knights in shining armour, damsels in distress, castles and cathedrals, Crusades Joan of Arc, Richard the Lionheart, Heloise and Abelard, damn, this was a fascinating period!

Yes, you're right rodeoschro but only as long as you yourself are running the show. And that's obvious. In a more social environment this is not the case, things become much more complicated and the question "how old do you feel?" Is often completely irrelevant. small circles, big wheels!

Look, if you're facing ageism for the first time, then join the club. You better get to the point that it doesn't stop you from living your life because middle age isn't old age...and that only gets worse in this youth obesessed society that we live in. So, learn to be comfortable in your own skin, whatever your age is...and don't let people discriminate against you when it comes to jobs, housing, etc. Socially? Enh, get new friends and hang out in places where you aren't made to feel uncomfortable. My "inside age" is 33. This is how I came to that conclusion: Age when I first became a father (and when I hit "pause" on the internal clock) = 27 Age I will be later this year = 45 Difference bewteen the two = 18 years # of years wasted on Divorce bullshit = 3
27 + 9 (midpoint of the "difference") - 3 (wasted years) = 33
...now if I could do something about the thinning hair. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Again, thanks for the responses you last three. Rodeo. With social I meant working in a team with younger folk. In a team there's a degree of dependence on others. (I've never cared much for working in a team. Lol.) Purplethunder. Yes, I get it. Sounds like I ought to be prepared for a continuous struggle. I don't mind, n sometimes enjoy an occasional fight, as long as it's no more than occasional. Walking away entirely is not an option. I guess you're right, I'm new to ageism. But this don't let it effect you is often unrealistic. Being ever ready for a scrap exacts its toll whether blows are exchanged or not. Still I find your advice encouraging. Thanks. small circles, big wheels!

Rightly, I'm sorry to hear you're encountering increasing ageism. I'm curious to know more detail, though. What sort of "scraps" are you finding yourself in? Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

amen! well said. aging is not the worst thing ever. good health is really important as we age - sleep enough eat good food, exercise and take time out to have fun. these will help slow the inevitable aging process.

AnOmen! Aging is not the worst thing ever. Yes, good health is important, n the rest... Err... I'm not really interested in slowing down the inevitable. I feel very well in my skin n I've never stated otherwise. This is more general than discussion. Lol. small circles, big wheels!

I have always been an "old soul", which reflected in my mid life crisis. I had to have that convertible at 35 years old. Purple one at that! Now, at 48, i feel my body breaking down, which is the beginning of the end. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
