Worst TV Finales Of All Time.

What would you consider the worst finales of all time?

I personally don't think shows like Lost or The The Sopranos bad endings. I can appreciate a mind fuck to the audience. That leaves them thinking for years no! i mean the Breaking Bad finale for example... it was good. But not mind blowing and everything was solved. I feel people won't talk about that for years.

For me... these are the worst.

1. The X-Files- the worst series finale of all time. After some incredible seasons. Everything was turned to shit in season 9. And the bad guys won... i don't mind the bad guys winning for a season or two. But the final episode? after all those years of build up. The government won! and what happened to Dogget & Reyes? and the super soldiers? it's all ignored in the next movie rolleyes

2. Dexter- Do i even need to say anything on this one?

3. How I Met Your Mother- I honestly didn't watch that show often. But the finale seemed like an after thought by the writers. Especially after like 9 seasons or so.

4. Quantum Leap- The show was cancelled... so they literally wrote the ending. Before the credits to say what happened rolleyes what?

5. Roseanne- Indeed a mind fuck of a finally. But stupid as fuck too.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

I've never watched that show but I run into Dean Stockwell all the time in Taos. Maybe one day I will ask him about that.

Ahh~ you should lol i'm sure even the actors were like wtf. It's funny that Scott Bakula is on NCIS right now. I used to get him and Mark Harmon confused as actors.

LOST was kind of disappointing. The story clearly got away from the creators.

Definitely Dexter. I never cared for science fiction so never bothered watching The X-file. I hate HIMYM: such ugly, superficial people. The mother deserved to die after all. The Roseanne finale still gets me emotional and I do love it though when the repeats get to seasons 8 and 9 I bail until they start over. Breaking Bad wrapped up way too neatly but wasn't bad.

I knew someone would mention LOST. I loved evey season of it, and I even liked the finale...a lot. lol

I think it made perfect sense. People think that the finale didn´t match the story or was kind of made up, but I read that the finale had actually been written a long time ago, during season one or two.

But I must admit that the whole show would´ve pleased more viewers if the writers in charge had developed the full story BEFORE shooting the show, and not while they were still shooting it. Some ideas should´ve been delved into a bit deeper, and some should´ve been left out, and some questions should have been answered.

I was not disappointed because in my opinion most questions were answered, and I didn´t have that many unanswered questions anyway, nor did I expect answers to every single question that popped up in my head, but still....

-

-

But it was a great TV series with very memorable and likeable characters, and I loved every season and every single episode of it.

Good times, good show. I miss my LOST phase. wink

I love LOST as much as the next LOSTie, but I wish they would've geeked out the whole ending. Have the numbers correspond to some alignment of the planets, which corresponded with the castaways horoscopes, all of which could've been the same or something crazy like that. It could've explained how many of them crossed paths before getting to the island (a mystery that was never addressed). If they had an ending in mind so early on in the series inception, which i don't believe is true, then they should've put an index card in the middle of a board and had every mystery come from it.

I'd stopped watching by this time but Benson ended with a cliffhanger where Benson had run for governor against his former boss. The final episode ended with the two of them watching the election returns on TV eating popcorn. Did Benson get elected damn governor or WHAT?!? (I've heard it said the producers were so worried about getting cancelled, they deliberately wrote the cliffhanger thinking, "well they HAVE to let us answer that one" and never did.)

People were so mad about Seinfeld, I actually thought it was funny.

Everything wasn't solved. It ended with Jesse on the run, wanted by the authorities and Saul's bodyguard Huell was left sitting in that DEA safe house still waiting for Hank & Gomez to come back and let him leave. lol

I agree with you. Never watched Dexter. Seinfeld was a let down, it felt like I was watching season 1 of Seinfeld where the characters were still trying to find themselfs. X-files I forget the ending I think there was a trial and something about a date?? Hate ending a show with a trial. I know tv shows want a spin so they try to be on the edge with not having a happy ending, how ever life sucks in real life so I rather have a show I like to have a happy ending. Quantum Leap like WTF I watch this show for years wanting Sam to make it home. Then in the finale that lady who narates says in her sad voice Sam never makes it back home eek . Never really watched How I meet your mother but to have her die, wow what a let down. Why not call it How I meet your mother who died? Medium was a let down too, having Joe die sucked.

I haven't seen most of these shows, or at least never made it to the last season. Except I did do Dexter, by some weird fluke and I have to 100% agree, that finale, that season, was corny as hell, made no sense whatsoever. I read somewhere there was an original plan to start a new series carrying on with his character that never happened, so I guess they had to figure out a way to demolish his past so he could start over fresh. I betting too much personally stuff got tied up in the series which derailed it.

Breaking Bad was fine, we knew Walt wasn't walking away.

Only finale that comes to mind at the moment that I thought could have been far better was Fringe.

All I can think of is stuff that came to an abrupt end.

aaaaaaand that's why I usually ignore tv series: they are often 2 or 3 (or even more) seasons too long, and the final ending is often misguided, a failure...

the "ending" of Twin Peaks season 2, for example...wtf? and I've heard that David Lynch is already pre-producing 9 new episodes for season 3, whatever ...

---

The X Files lost its way long before the late '90s/early '00s...basically with the abduction of Mulder...the writers/creators never found a new way after that critical moment...

lol the only good episode of Lost was the pilot episode: the crash and the survivors trying to make some sense of it...

the series degenerated QUICKLY....

X-Files got it right, the bad guys aka goverment pretty much always "win". I didn't think the last season was well written or thought out all that well. Premise of this show, you would have thought the writers could have written better story lines.

I'll say "Lost." From the very first episode, people were guessing that the passengers/islanders were dead and in some sort of purgatory. The creators swore that wasn't it. Then, they couldn't come up with anything better so created a parallel universe and made that purgatory. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

That aspect of the finale I liked, along with bringing back many of the prior characters. What I didn't like was the part from the conviction on. I think it would have been better if they were found Not Guilty on a technicality or if they were sentenced to just probation. They should have had a farewell scene from Jerry's apartment, and each of the characters should have had a major life change. The prison part just seemed boring, unfunny and didn't tug at viewer emotions the way most finales do.

The Jeffersons...because there wasn't a series finale. After 11 seasons, CBS cancelled the show during its summer hiatus. CBS didn't even air the 11th season finale, which had already taped. And the cast had to read in the paper that the show was cancelled.

I agree. The problem with the Lost finale wasn't that it was poorly considered. It was that viewers saw it coming years prior, called it, and were expected to pretend what they ultimately got was something different. It wasn't.

True Blood's finale sucked. But, then, so did every season after the first. Not much they could've done better to wrap up that arc of failure.

I doubt it. I'm sure the series was very loosely based on the real life medium. Doubt if the real life medium solved as many crimes as TV's Allison DuBois did.

Prison was a major life change. lol

I actually didn't like the finale but, when you mentioned that I'd rather see them in prison than going their seperate ways or something. I hate that kind of ending, sad goodbyes, like Friends.

I used to really like Seinfeld, but I just watched the episode where George's fiancee Susan died. Yes, it's fiction, it's comedy, but I could tell that neither the authors nor the actors ever had something like this happen to them. I could only think one thing: what a bunch of selfish bastards those characters are. (I've never seen the finale.)
