I don't see that its about race. I see its about the morality of mean beating women. As well as about the failed attempt of the NFL to protect its image with a subject it need no do that with. Only magnifying the number of antiquated views on domestic violence floating around. Race may be some tiny element in reporting or reaction...simply cuz of race permeate the u.s. but i don't see this being about race at all. I don't understand how u feel its about race orhow its involved so heavily seventeendayz

If u read my comment, it isn't about race. It is about how when blackman are involved.......the punishment is more harsh than normal. What part of this isn't clear? FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent.

Maybe I'm speaking Calculus to those who struggle in Algebra but I never said this issue was about RACE. I said to a LESSER EXTENT race was a factor. Did you not read what I wrote to OldFriendsforSale? Man, this is a complicated issue for a number of reasons but if you want to pin the tail on the "educated Nigress" then be my guest. Reminds me of the Vick situation yet there are folks around the world killing animals every single day of the week for sport. None of those folks are in prison. It would be great 2 see a bit of common sense when it comes 2 handing out punishment for everyone across the board. It seems that the brothers ALWAYS take the hardest hit.
Of course..........we all know race has nothing 2 do with his punishment. If that is your stance, show me another player and any other sport banned for this same action. I'll wait.

I haven't seen all sharpton say nothing in regards to race about this. That fool can inject race into cotton candy, its marketing, and afro-americans...I.e.: anything.

I will say this... Yes he did initially get preferential treatment, BUT... Of course that didn't last. He lost his career, his family is ridiculed and embarrassed, and everyone wants his head on a stick. All of this would seem somewhat reasonable HAD Janay pressed charges. She didn't, so now BOTH of them have to be badgered into compliance, meanwhile no one is going to put a life that the two of them seemed to be getting on with back together. All for our entertainment, because believe me no one (based on their actions) cares THIS much about the domestic lives of people we have no connection to. If it's your mother, sister, close relative or friend? Yes. And like I said before if the couple insists on sticking it out... But since they're celebrities now they have to be symbols and conveniently, black. That being said I will say I don't think anyone here personally has race in mind but that hardly matters because of the way this thing is playing out on all fronts.

Ijust dont see HIS PUNISHMENT(2 b clear) being about race. I see it about the morality of men beating women. As well as the NFL's failed attempts to control PR. Does he happen to be black? Yes. If it was about race I think it would have started out as an indefinite suspension. It didn't. It started as a 2 game suspension. Did his race change in the process?

Exactly. I think some people deliberately confuse the issue of "race" and "racism". Ray Rice is a black man who most likely got preferential treatment in his life because he's a stellar athlete. From pee wee league all the way to the pros, I'm assuming he may have had a modicum of defacto white privelege because he can run fast and he's amazing to watch on the field. He brings value to any team that he is on. I can't judge him per se but there have been countless reports of star athletes not being held to the same standard in school because they don't want the wrath of the coach, other players or (especially) the athletic boosters that bankroll many of these school teams. So, who is he going to be without his identity as a football player? Does he have basic business skills? Many young kids, especially black boys, are steered into sports because that's just how America is but once their sports days are over, they are cast out like yesterday's news. In that regard, he's not had the typical black male experience.
Who else but Chris Brown, Ray Rice and even Ray Lewis walk away from such harsh penalties that the rest of folks, especially black men as XXaXX pointed out? These men are given a pass because they are athletes, not because they are black men. They are having a very different life experience because of that. Now that Ray Rice can kiss his career goodbye, he's going to be in for a very rude awakening that will be exacerbated by his domestic violence scandal in the NFL. Trolls be gone!

Even though I disagree with you, I have an idea of what you are trying to say. To answer your question, please see what I just wrote a few lines up. I was basically saying that Ray Rice gets a pass from the NFL (before TMZ blew this up) because he's a valuable player, not because he's a black man. But, the fact that he's getting all these attacks on his character, as he should, introduces some of hypocrisy that many people have already alluded to. This thread is pretty long but go back and read the posts about the MMA fighter who is blackballed from the association because of domestic violence. There are pictures and everything else that are horrific but it wasn't played out in the media very much at all. Granted that the NFL is the most profitable league, I assume, that still shows a double standard in media coverage, at the very least. Trolls be gone!

It is amazing to see this guy go from being arguably one of the best players in the league to being shunned. I think TMZ may have already had the tape but someone with nefarious motives didn't want the story to break until after Week 1 of the season. This will affect fantasy football leagues and also sports betting to a greater extent. Yes, this is far fetched but it's a possibility. Harvey Levin broke the original story back in February but notice how NOBODY in the media talked about what happened INSIDE the elevator until now? My first gut reaction was to wonder what happened INSIDE the elevator and I'm sure many of you reading this had the same thought when the original story broke months ago. Trolls be gone!

Wow, the NFL sure got to Bill Polian in a hurry! Polian was interviewed twice on ESPN this morning, in the span of 20 minutes. Both times, he was specifically asked if he, as someone who has worked in the NFL office, thought it was possible for an NFL executive to have obtained a copy of the tape showing Ray Rice knocking out his then-fiancée in an elevator, as was reported by the AP yesterday, and not have shown that tape to Roger Goodell or any other NFL execs. Check out the transcripts of the two answers and tell me if you see anything that changed, LOL:

None. I don't attribute this to his rave though. I attributes it to societies changing view of domestic viiolence and public figuresbgetting passes...also, the nfl's attempt to control The PR in regards to this. I've seen many a black man spend time in jail for this and Ray's spent none and likely won't. I'm sure he's not the first man to loose his job(temporarily here...it likely won't b a lifelong ban) cuz of domestic violence. Lifelong bans seemed reserved for gamblers and game fixers. Some seasons were given to DUI'ers War machine isn't black...but he's gonna get time and he's lost his way to make a living as well. I don't think it hit the tv media heavily cuz it was properly(IMO) address by his employers and was hunted down by the police after he went on the lamb. Plus homegirlbis a raunch porn star(filthy nasty and I like her...lots) and would b hard to cover heavily in the media cuz of the general publics perception of porn stars...espicially raunchy ones who get slapped any go ATM regularly. He's not black and was treated harshly and appropriately. Rays black and was treated nicely(relatively). I know that blacks get harsh scentencing terms in our judicial system as well as in the public. I attribute all this media attention to the NFL's idiocy. The NFL trying to play ignorant while covering it up is mentioned as much, if not more than ray punching his wife is mentioned. Sometimes ray is mentioned only to get to the gooddell story. Legally, rays getting off where many a black man would be in jail. Is his punishment about race cuz he's getting off?
