I agree with all 5 of your points. But you forgot about "classism". It's not an official word in the American English dictionary, but it needs to be. The issue of class (especially rich VS. poor) can never be overlooked.
Yes, Tony. This classism issue is especially a problem in the American so-called judicial system. If Ray Rice were the average broke negro, he'd be under a jail by now, especially if Janay was the mayor's daughter or something to that effect! Trolls be gone! |

Something seriously wrong with this broad. I don't know if she's staying for the money, for the attention or simply because of a low sense of self-worth. But, when a man physically attacks a woman the way he attacked her, I don't care how much you claim (think) you love him, he don't love you and obviously, he's sufferring from very low self-esteem and has severe anger/mental issues. They both need help.
Agreed. She's probably staying for all of the reasons that you listed above here. If I'm not mistaken, in some cities if a boxer or fighter gets involved in a domestic dispute that they could face trumped up charges because their hands are considered deadly weapons? Of course they never prosecute fighters unless the public pressure is so enormous that they have no choice but to do so (as the case with Floyd Mayweather a few years ago) Trolls be gone! |

Hey, let's get all up in arms about a private matter that has NOTHING 2 do with us as individuals. [Edited 9/9/14 16:44pm] True in the grand scheme of things but the reality is that people have wives, sisters, mothers, cousins, aunts, and friends who have experienced this directly or indirectly and to expect women who have been down this road to not react passionately about domestic violence would be unrealistic. More true than people believe. Legally speaking, this is still being seen as a fight between two people and not domestic violence. Palmer is not a victim in this. She's just the losing party. 2014-Year of the Parties |

Maybe there was a zero tolerance or one strike rule of domestic violence in his contract before the new rules took effect. Or that bad publicity, and how it affects the NFL cancels out the contract. Who knows
Yeah that's a good point. The timing is certainly suspect that's for sure. I'm sure he's lawyered up by now and will take the league to court possibly but of course that's assuming that there will be a criminal trial, which I seriously doubt she's going to press charges. I don't know if the rules of New Jersey apply in this case but it seems that in some states it doesn't matter if the victim presses charges or not, there will be charges pressed by "the state". So, that will factor into this as well. The prosecutor might be pressured to drop the charges but will Rice be picked up by another team? Only if they want a PR disaster waiting to happen. Geez, and these people thought Michael Sam was a circus, wait until this stuff plays out....
It appears that the state took action because from what I've read of him, he took a plea. |

I'm inclined to agree sis....that's why I brought up battered woman syndrome in my other reply. I suspect that dynamic could be applied to this situation. I spent three years processing restraining orders and her behaviour fits the profile.
It breaks my heart to hear of any person -man or woman- in this situation.
Let me play devils advocate here, and know that I love and respect both of you my sisters, and the point of view you bring here; but what if Rays wife initial reaction and the reason to her rage was the threat she felt to her family e.g. the new woman coming into the fold and the idea that she was being replaced by the next chick taking her check real or not -- not making her a gold digger but a woman protecting her love interest and investment in her famlies future. Ironically if all this is true what she did worked against her in her fight to protect her faimly as he has lost his income. Again I'm speculating as to the cause of the fight..
Wouldn't that make her more of a victim of a domestic violent incident and NOT a domestic violence victim. I know I'm splitting hairs here buti it would explain her apology and recent instagram message. aybe she does not see herself as a domestic voilence victim. When I think of a domestic violence victim I think of a woman suffering from voilence unprevoked by a man or with minimal provocation, certainly nothing physical nor verbal.
Regardless, he could have tried to restrained her or tried to avoid further conflict but she should not have put her hands on him as he should not have put his fists on her.

This thread is getting pretty long even though it was just started yesterday but there were a few people who addressed what you were talking about. I think it seemed that he was too comfortable with hitting her and showed no remorse or shock. It seemed like it had happened before and that's why I think some people are seeing her as a domestic violence victim instead of a victim of a domestic violence incident. It seems like there are a lot of question marks in this situation but it's sad all around. I think she's trying to protect someone who has already been abusive to her way before this video tape surfaced. Trolls be gone! |

Seriously???
Women aren't physical equals to men for the most part. Men tend to be stronger, so a man punching a woman pretty much seals it for her and she will usually get her lights knocked out... especially if said dude is an althlete. Only a bully would hit a woman.
Its not an even match.... so MEN are supposed to walk away when a woman is acting foolish enough to think she can take on a guy. If she persists, then he is to call police and press charges.
If she is abusive and can't keep her hands to herself then she needs to be cut off and deemed undatable.
It is a pure punk move for a guy to hit a woman under any circumstance... with the ONLY exception being if his life is in danger.
BUT... YOU should already know this!

IMHO The video (the fight itself) explains much to me. I judge people by their actions... his actions told me that he was COMFORTABLE hitting her.... like it was a regular thing. This is why he didn't want her passed out ass riding and elevator down to a lobby and dragged her half way out in a cavalier fashion. HE KNEW TO STOP THAT ELEVATOR SO POLICE WOULD NOT BE CALLED BY OTHER PATRONS IN THE HOTEL. He used her body like a doorstop.
Her hitting him shows that they tend to communicate with hits and blows rather than words... so it's regular dysfunction at that home... where people scream at eachother and stuff gets broken often.
He gets off on having power over her with his fists, and then makes it up to her by "aplogizing" in grand form, most likely shopping sprees and sex... and she enables him happily because she is a mental case.
She may have not been a mental case before she was with him, but she is now.
A victim of ONE act will call police once she is pushed or feels like she is in trouble and gets him in trouble for hurting her... she doesn't go back for more of the same. To do so means she feels compelled to stay by his side which means he is in her head controlling her actions.

Oh I understand. I think it's just a messed up situation altogether. Now, this guy is losing endorsements left and right so it will be interesting to see how long after this she stays with him. I wonder if it will only reinforce her "love" for him. Only she knows that but going on Instagram and putting people on blast and defending her abusive husband doesn't seem to be something a rational person would do but her motives may be less than pure. It's hard to say. I don't know if they were high school sweethearts but they are still pretty young to be married. In pro athlete years, he basically got married really, REALLY early in the game but I'm sure that hasn't stopped him from messing around with other women behind her back or possibly right in front of her face, so to speak. women can be aggressors/abusers too. i once lived next door to a couple who were constantly fighting. used to hear them breaking things, shouting, bodies slam against the wall... one day i saw them together, she was about six feet tall and maybe 300 pounds. he was just a little guy, 5'4" and 120. clearly, all that time she'd been tossing him 'round. he had bruises... |
