How Can One be Nostalgic For Something... If they keep reliving it? Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

. I would say that I have a nostalgic streak, and I'll periodically pull out the old music and films and comic books to re-watch or re-listen and put me back in the zone of what it was like in those days. . This actually played a part in my registering at the ORG to begin with, because there are so many people here talking about 90s R&B, unlike most other forums I visit where no one cares about a Montell Jordan or a Brandy. . But I try not to go overboard with it. Honestly, for purposes of real nostalgia, I prefer to go over old photographs or personal notes I made in old notebooks from school and the like. THAT is when I'll reminisce about the years gone by, and what state of mind I was in at that time, and how my life and/or the world looked. Music in general feels more timeless to me. I will listen to Ginuwine's Bachelor a couple times in the year without there necessarily being nostalgic felings attached to it. I just listen to it because I love the album. I have the nostalgic connection more when watching old TV shows, although there certainly are many songs that I attach to events or periods in my life. Example: 'Freak On A Leash' by Korn was played a lot when my class was at summer camp in 1999, so I'll always associate it with summer camp. . I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme | |

Nostalgia is connected to particular times in our lives. You actually can't relive it. People can be nostalgic for the 1970s or the 1960 but they could never relive that period, no matter what they do. . I can say "I'm nostalgic for the 1980s" before cell phones and online dating, before MP3s etc There is nothing I can do to recreate that time. People are becoming more and more socialpaths afraid to talk on the phone, I miss the big club scene when you met someone or hung out with a date or friends at and danced the night away, it's not like that anymore. I miss going to record stores to buy albums. There are a few record stores around but not like before. . People can be nostalgic for times gone by. You can never be 10 18 25 again when you are much older. I miss certain aspects of my teens. This kind of thing also is connected to friends family that may no longer be with us anymore. Holidays, summers, cookouts, amusment parks, camping, road trips, etc. You keep living and creating more memories and having a good life, but when life changes and it was good you miss it. . There are aspects of the 70s 80s and early 90s that I miss. But it's also a part of me and I continue to live and enjoy life. But you notice things and people change -a lot of times for the worse. I find beautiful things in my right now as well. I think this is something everyone deals with to various degrees. Some people try to deny these feelings because it acually causes them more pain. Maybe life is just no longer good. Or maybe regrets of things missed out on. . There is something I noticed in watching certain movies from the 1970s or 80s especially... especially in family/friends social scenes like at a coffee shop or friends around the table having some wine and talking about life. ... there are no cell phones Ipads and such. It's an interesting thing to remember. And it's almost hard to realize I lived through a time like that. When people could not just get a hold of you any time of day or night. If there was someone I needed to contact I generally knew they would be home by a certain time. So I call after that time or leave a message. I bet our anxieties were much lower then.
