Now that the harssh winter in the midwest is finally over and it´s spring again and summer is almost here ............´tis that season of the year and now that all yall hibernating peeps now have come out to play there this burning question that´s like that big elephant in the room...so much fruit ...so little time..butt not all of it turns me on. apples for instance...Braeburns and pink lady are good butt all in all apples are pretty boring in the summertime. it´s like having sex with Gwinneth Paltroe when y´all know you could be sexxing Sofia Vergara, right?

Summer fruit in the midwest? Strawberries, baby. None of those imports in the plastic clamshells, for me. I wait until it's strawberry season here, then go out and pick about 10 pounds with my own two little hands. Strawberry and balsamic vinegar ice cream...strawberry shortcake...strawberry daiquiris...

I also love rhubarb (technically not a fruit, but I use it that way) - in combination with the aforementioned strawberries or on its own. One of my favorite spring breakfasts is cottage cheese with stewed rhubarb. And last year, I made rhubarb vodka.

A little later, it's blueberries and raspberries. In July, I'm all over cherries - both tart and sweet. Still later, I'm on the prowl for ground cherries.

Apples are sad in the summer because you're still eating the ones that were harvested the previous fall. I give apples a rest in the summer and pick them up again with the new harvest - along with cranberries and pears. Gotta eat what's in season!

Nothing beats a big, juicy, sweet peach.

I love apples, so I still eat a lot of fujis. Have a few pink ladys, but I found some wonderful honey crisps just last week, but I only have seen them in one store, they had some ambrosias too but I didn't buy any. Waiting on the nectrines, though.
