So I went to see "Punch Drunk Love" last night and during the movie all of a sudden I hear a very familiar sounding song. I soon realized that it was "He Needs Me" as sung by Shelly Duvall in the Popeye movie (BTW Shelly was born to play Olive Oyl ).

This is a great song and once again I marveled at how great Paul Thomas Anderson is at using music in his movies. I haven't loved all his movies and I'm not even sure about what I thought about "Punch Drunk Love", but his choices in music are second to none. He makes his scenes come alive with the quirky music he uses.

The movie "Punch Drunk Love" certainly was different, and Adam Sandler was great, but I walked out of the theater and thought, "Wow, that was interesting" but I didn't have much of an opinion as to whether I liked it or not. I might need some time to process the movie and perhaps I will need to see it again. But I tell you that I sure had the song "He Needs Me" in my head.

This got me thinking about the Popeye Movie and how great it was. I actually haven't seen in about ten years, but I have very fond memories of it. I even remember seeing in the theater in 1980 and I was born in 1974.

I came home and ordered the Popeye soundtrack, but found that the movie is not available on DVD (what a shame)

So anyway...With this thread feel free to discuss "Punch Drunk Love", "He Needs Me", "Paul Thomas Anderson", or the movie "Popeye".

So apparantly nobody has any feeling on "Punch Drunk Love", "Popeye" "PTA", or the song. Hmmm...

I haven't seen Punch-Drunk Love yet, but I will say, I love the Popeye movie, and I do love that song! You realize, it's going to be in my head for the rest of the day now...
I haven't even thought about that movie, let alone the song in years! I agree, Shelly Duvall kicks ass as Olive Oyl.
