Terrible Sore Throat

For five days now I've had a kind of pain in my throat I've never felt before. It reminds me of tonsillitis, but the location of the pain is slightly different. Since yesterday I even started feeling pain in my right ear.

I try drinking a lot (even if it hurts like a motherfucker), especially tea with lots of honey, and tap water. Took some anti-inflammatory painkillers and other medicine, but it didn't even have the slightest of effects.

What the fuck is this shit?! What can I do?

Can't see the doctor yet, because I have loads of work to do at home. But I need to get fit as soon as possible, 'cause I need to be on-stage next week again.

Any tips?

Do you have a fever? Sounds like you're going to have to make time to visit the doctor on this one to get some antibiotics. I used to get a strep throat at least twice a year since I was a child, then during my college years I developed tonsilitis a lot until one summer when it wouldn't go away for 3 months. I ended up getting my tonsils removed and I barely get sick anymore. If I do, it's normally something that I can treat on my own with OTC meds.

Hope you get better soon!

I agree about strep... Other than the awful physical symptoms is your breath RANK?? That is one sure sign of strep... you cant mistake that nasty smell!! GET TO A DOCTOR!

If its strep there is nothing other than antibiotics you can do!! Also its dangerous to mess with strep... it can turn into much worse, even death sad

GO TO A DOCTOR.... Fit it in Dave... Dont fuck with your health becaus eyour 'busy'... you arent gonna get shit done of your dead!!

Funnily, I don't! I do feel cold and weak during the day, but I've never felt properly feverish.

I also still have my tonsils and probably should get them removed, but I'm afraid of the impact the surgery can have on my singing voice. I should risk it, but I'm afraid to.

Nah, don't think it's strep. My breath smells of rosebuds, honey and mint batting eyes

The pain is much more like the feeling you have when you wake up in a room with incredibly dry air and your throat is so dry it hurts, only times one hundred ten thousand fucking millions.

Could be just a virus then... Still.... I wouldnt mess around.... What if it makes your throat so raw that you build scar tissue and it affects your singing voice and at the same time causes you to contort your face into a paralyzed expression of wincing in pain and your ugly FOR LIFE! omfg

Do the world a favour Dave..... GO TO THE DOCTOR!

sounds like Strep, like there are knives in your throat? You might be able to see white fungus on your tonsils, only an antibiotic will rid that. Go to a clinic or your doctor

.

Ice cream or yogart (cold) helps, not citrus

That is an old ideal. My doctor years ago when I had strep for the 2nd time and wanted them removed, the doc said that wouldn't make a difference.

Go to the doctor, you'll start to feel better quickly

So sorry to hear you're sick. sad I hope you feel better soon.

When I was growing up, I used to get strep throat every February. Finally, the Dr. looked at me and said, "You get it one more time and the tonsils are coming out." Never got it again. He scared it out of me and I still have my tonsils. giggle

Well if you don't get strep or tonsilitis often, then you may not need your tonsils to be removed, but I can say, that after the doc snatched mine out things worked out to my benefit ever since! Hope the doc is able to figure out what is going on with your throat.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

If it's moving to your ear, it's probably strep or some other bacterial infection. Go to the doctor.

As for tonsils, I had tonsillitis six times before I was a year old and still have mine. They rarely yank them anymore unless it's absolutely necessary - especially in adults.

Just came back from the doc; had to sit there waiting for two fucking hours, surrounded by people who looked like the Knutsns out of The Big Lebowski.

It's some kind of bad infection, but thankfully not strep. Got antibiotics, lots of painkillers and salvia tea.

No need to be sick, have sinus infections nor take harmful anitbiotics, when you clean your sinuses on an as needed/regular basis.

Over the counter cold medicine companies, would go out of business if more people would simply clean their sinuses. The common cold would be eliminated, if every child in every school would just clean their sinuses.

A simple fix for a healthier life. Educate yourself when it comes to your health!

^^^ Yep. I use a neti pot, water and sea salt to clean my sinuses (usually 2 - 3 times a day). It works! I heart my neti pot.

I started with a neti pot, but I swear by the NeilMed Sinus Rinse product. So easy to use, a toddler can do it. No gravity needed, just squeeze and done!

I've tried them both as well and I find that the neti pot works really, really well for me. I also prefer using the sea salt over the rinse packages. For some reason, my neti & me agree. giggle

cool

Once the pain travels up to the inner ear, it's serious enough for a trip to the doctor. nod

Glad it's not strep though. thumbs up!

I had not heard anything bad about using these. I had 3 sinus infections in one year back in '07. I started with the neti pot, then the nasopure and now the sinus rinse. I had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic when I started researching natural cures for sinus infections. 6 years later, no more sinus infections and I do not get sick.

I'm curious to know what you heard was "BAD" about them.

The obvious is the use of tapwater. I know not to use tapwater.

Then I recall someone saying that it dried out your sinuses, and that any bits of water that may remain up there could be bad (or something like that).

I have had strep throat. Get into the doctor or some medical clinic right away. You need to be on antibiotics.

When I was at the doctor he mentioned about my tonsils. I told him when I was 6 years old my brother and I were in the hospital having our tonsils removed. The next day I got to have red jello and ice cream, yeah my throat hurt just to swallow.

The doctor said that I do have my tonsils and that tonsils do grow back. I was like wtf??? eek
