I have never heard of this actress. I just watched a clip of her on youtube... I don't understand the physics, of how this woman doesn't just break. Not to be mean or judgmental, but someone needs to feed this poor girl. To call her "anorexic," would be insulting to people who battle anorexia.

Gonna take some SERIOUS movie magic and CGI work to get this little walking stick, to look like a powerful superheroine!!! Physical trainer Mark Twight said it best about Superman... if you want to see what type of physique you need, just open a comic book. Tell that to the casting agent, that hired this woman.

Certainly there are actresses with a more "Amazonian" physique. But of every one I've heard named, none have acting chops anywhere near tolerable for 90+ minutes. Gal Gadot has proven she can carry a scene, she's got a great face, she's no stranger to action, and though she is not Greek, her Mediterranean background does make for a workable aesthetic fit for her character. She certainly could benefit from putting on some muscle to approach the visual expectiations of the part, but that's about the only thing between her and a fair portrayal of the Diana most people beside hardcore comic geeks have in mind, I think.

Approaching this from another angle, I find it ironic -- and possibly plain sexist -- that people are suggesting Gadot has not merely a diminutive, but a downright unathletic, weak, sickly, or even unwomanly physical presence. She is not only a former soldier in real life, but a former military fitness trainer AND a mother. She could possibly whip every ass represented on this thread... and look good doing it. In some way, I think that very dissonance played out onscreen might make for a more intriguing depiction of feminine power than that of a more physically hulking woman, even if it is slightly askew from the books.

The dissonance would play out in the visual of an athletic, yet otherwise fairly unassuming, woman kicking major butt onscreen rather than an actress whose imposing physique attests so obviously that she could do so. I think the built-like-a-brick-house Amazon thing works well in the books, but I suspect it could actually be a liability on film, where it would almost certainly distract from every other way in which Wonder Woman, as feminine ideal, exudes... well... wonder.

Let's face it, Wonder Woman's über body is drawn that way because guys get off on it, not because it is principally what makes her one of the most powerful characters in the DC universe. She's got kind of a lot of other things going for her. And what exactly does a divine pedigree look like?

I agree a few protein shakes will benefit Gal. But I think we can generally cut her some slack. She may impress us.

Whoever plays the role has to live up to the image of when I used to watch Lynda Carter with my grandmother and she would say....."Look at Wonda Woe-man running around with them titties on display looking like a big ole jersey cow". Tonia Sotiropolou could make a pretty interesting WW. But some considerations...

* Tonia is listed at around 5'5"/5'6" and 120 lbs., compared, for example, to Gal Gadot's 5'8"/5'9" and 110 lbs. (Incidentally, Gal Gadot is the same height as Linda Carter, though about 10 lbs. lighter than when Linda played WW.) If stature is everyone's gripe, it'd be a heck of a lot easier for someone like Gal to gain pounds in muscle than for Tonia to grow a few inches.

* Gal has a military/sports background as well as experience carrying an action role, even performing her own stunts. I'm not positive, but I haven't heard Tonia has the equal experience.

Sure, Tonia's Greek, but would anyone know that based strictly on appearance? Gal looks no less potentially Greek (herself being Israeli and, therefore, Northeast Mediterranean) and, in fact, speaks with a considerably more Mediterranean accent when using English. Tonia's English accent is very much British, as her base of operation has been London for years.

...There is, of course, the possibility of going with some other actress none of us has heard of. To your point, however, it might take a somewhat better appreciation of international talent than Hollywood seems to have right now.

The Studio/Casting Director could have gone a whole lot of places. Greek or Black and maybe Asian. There would have been an uproar of course.
