As far as Catching Fire.

It seems like it expands on certain aspects of the first Hunger Games. What i liked about the first one was it showed that unchecked classism, elitism, decadence and oppression will lead to a sick society. The second one seems to go even deeper into them belief systems.

Have u read any of the Hunger Game books ?

rose

Yep. disbelief We see it right now.

And yes...read them all. Kind of wish I hadn't because I knew what was going to happen. But it was still good.

You ain't lying ! It should be obvious 2 us humans that an extreme have, have not society is gonna lead 2 our destruction.

As far as the Hunger Games novels. As soon as i get new reading glasses im gonna check em out.

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

I saw this last night and was blown away again by how this is so much more than simply a guy reaching outside his now famous boom-box social strata.

Byzantium 4/5 I really liked this. A slow paced movie that held my complete undivided attention. Loved the vampire concept. A bit different. A little romantic without getting mushy. Melancholy. Period and modern. A decent story, very metaphorical. Female leads.

A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas (2011)

A poor facsimile of the original with performances wasted all around. Not even a Christmas theme could save this one.

I'm burnt out on vampires, but I agree this wasn't bad at all.

Mauvais Sang / Bad Blood (1986) - A young thief becomes enchanted with the girlfriend of his much older colleague.

The big selling point for me was a young Juliette Binoche and Julie Delpy in the same movie. The fact that it was directed by Leos Carax who also did Holy Motors was icing on the cake really. And yes, this was the inspiration for the Bowie "Modern Love" running scene in Frances Ha. Loved it. star star star star 1/2

Philomena (2013) - A world-weary political journalist picks up the story of a woman's search for her son, who was taken away from her decades ago after she became pregnant and was forced to live in a convent.

This is a very charming movie. No surprise, Judi Dench is great as the Irish mum. star star star star

Saw this yesterday, very good movie. Judi Dench and Steve Coogan are always great. I give it a 7 out of 10.

It's a british production so I had to giggle at the scenes other than the monuments that were supposedly shot in the US. The American accent on the waitress and the "mexican" cook lol

Now I know how other cultures must feel when Hollywood portrays them. Other funny cultural portrayals was her son's sister (what was up with her hair) and of course a gay man living in Washington would have a seminal "American" car like an El Camino in his front yard. lol

David Lynch rip-off movie. Wasn't impressed. Casting Kristen Scott Thomas as the mother was the best thing in the movie because her performance (as usual) was completely perfect. She amazes me in everything she does. Unfortunately she wasn't enough to save the silly plot. star star star star 4 stars out of ten.

Diana Vreeland: The Eyes Has To Travel. 4/5 A docu. For decades, Diana Vreeland was one of the leading authorities in fashion through eccentric self-taught skill and a bold stylistic audacity. This film guides you through this fashion pioneer's long career from her youth in Paris until she became a leading magazine fashion columnist and editor. In this medium, Vreeland challenged its preconceptions to present a new definition of beauty and vivaciousness where nice clothes were just the beginning for something deeper. Even when that vocation ended, Vreeland managed to gain a new museum profession to present clothing's history in her own inimitable way.

Great acting, nice references and symolism, wonderful songs, really well made movie.

And I just hated the main character. What a incredible eogistic, self centered douchebag. With a lame excuse. But, I'm kind of black/white in my judgement.

Recommend to go and see it.

The New Woman 3.5/5. I found it hilarious and ridiculous. A really low-budget 50s style Indie film in "cold war" black & white. Takes place in a modern day small town where one night all the males (including the fish lol) of the world permanently fall asleep. I swear gay men had to make this movie because the women were ridiculously useless (the're starving, yet nobody knows how to work a garden or anything else) BUT some really interesting truths were brought up that I would agree with. When I popped into the DVD player I thought it would bore me but I actually liked it a lot.

Sightseers – I really liked Ben Wheatley’s first move (Down Terrace) and I loved Kill List so much that I’d probably rank it as one of my favourite movies, but at this point I’m a little luke-warm on this black comedy. It starts well enough, but it didn’t really surprise me or give me anything new once it established what kind of movie it was. I did like the ending and I’d still give it a 3/5, but it was something of a let-down for me.

It's been years since I've seen it, but I didn't have a problem with H&W. That said, I didn't see it in a theatre, & when people report queasiness from films, I believe it's usually from a theatre screening where the film is big enough to consume most of your field of vision.

American Hustle (2013) - A con man, Irving Rosenfeld, along with his seductive British partner, Sydney Prosser, is forced to work for a wild FBI agent, Richie DiMaso. DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia.

All-around excellent. star star star star star
