Tempest, I think you are taking the word "love" much to literally... In this case, love to me are things that bring me joy, make me happy, get me excited... just because I 'love" these things does not make me materialistic... it just means there are "things" in the world that make me happy... Say the boots... I love nothing more than when fall arrives and i can put on a pair of my boots, skinny jeans and a sweater on a chilly day when going out with my husband... I dont want to marry my boots, i just love them!! I get excited for them... Surely you have one thing that makes you excited to have, or use.. I also have a disgusting old ass ugly cardigan my husband bought wayyy back in 1988... I wore it when I was pregnant... everyone who sees it says "that is the ugliest sweater I have ever seen" but I LOVE IT! It brings me much happiness and joyful memories when I wear it.. Love is much bigger than feelings for just people.. hug

I didn't mean to infer that anyone here is materialistic for loving things. Not at all. Sorry if that's the way my comments came across or were misinterpreted. I didn't mean for that to happen. I just said that material things just don't excite me that much. shrug

*

I know that love is more than just feelings for people. I'm absolutely crazy about my pets for instance. However, they're still living creatures and they don't count for the purposes of this thread. wink

*

I guess I'll have to give it some more thought. However, maybe I'm just a different kind of person that thinks differently than most others. I dunno. If I can think of anything non-living that rocks my world, I'll be sure to post. biggrin

Yes, I'm a woman but I don't have a shoe fetish and no I don't "love" shoes. I have a few comfortable pairs that I own and don't really give a darn about shoes. lol

I'm also not in love with handbags (like most women). I have only one (made of leather) that has lasted me for many years. It's totally utilitarian for me. I drag it along when I need to and leave it at home much of the time. I barely have anything in it (just necessities). I don't carry everything AND the kitchen sink in it like most women do (you know the 35 lb handbags).

*

I guess I'm just an odd woman. lol

Same here. I wear my shoes until they break. One bag, but I do keep some mail in it, but it's not heavy. And I don't like shopping either.

But I do love to eat so I'll go with FOOD. foodnow

Let's see...
lemon meringue, pecan pie, lemon cheesecake ice cream with white cake, but I can't think of anything else more specific since I like to eat anything. Sometimes when I cook, I create a delicious dish with no name but I can never make it the same again so I don't know. NEVER mcdonalds though. But I love a good burger if freshly made from Chili's or something. The best of all is free food. drooling

I would love to not have to sell a little building that I bought.
Break it down.

Redesign a new self sustainable house with an architect.

Have that house build by reliable folks.

Get my drivers license.

A new car, that is spacious and as environmentally friendly as possible.

Have somebody redo and finish my kitchen. I did a great job on designing it, but somebody else should really make it. It's showing that I'm not a handy girl and did not have any experience.
And a huge fridge and a huge freezer. And a massive stove. With all the sexy kitchen gear I love. And a big Kitchen Aid mixer. Actually, just everything from kitchen aid.

laptop, speakers, phone with subscription to unlimited minutes and internet access.

fancy sewing machine and the sewingcourse for beginners that my friend is starting, so we actually will know how to work the sewing machine and can go out for lunch after the lessons.

Unlimited credits, so I can go out for lunch and diner and invite friends, because I can pay the bill for all of us.

A staff that will make that cookbook that I want to make for years already.

A staff that will help me writing that series that I want to write.

A very luxureous holiday, including luxury safari's in Africa and South America whild I don't feel any guilt about spending my money on that kind of luxury.
And of course a dream holiday house at a beach or river, absolutely private so I can swim in it naked, delicious food served to the house, a pile of books to read and a lover whom I adore, who adores me and we enjoy eachothers presence and fiddling eachother endlessly.

Now and then having a break by going to a wonderfull museum, exhibition or festival.

And of course be able to bring my cat with me.

That's what I already do. Whenever I need something, I shop online.

*

I do it for business supplies and also for the necessities of life (other than groceries).

*

My comment that I made was more in reference to how it's generally assumed that women love shoes, love handbags and love to shop. Women like to go out with their friends just to roam around for hours window shopping and charging away. Not my cup of tea.

*

Online shopping is GRAND when I need something. I've done it for years.

No, that is just what is suggested in advertisement, movies and series.

Unfortunately, young girls do perceive that stereotype as a standard of female behavior.

Teenage girls "love shopping" because they can go to the mall, and meet teenage boys there. And then all these boys and girls can be totally insecure and love all that excitement.

This hormonal induced ritual is presented as 'girls love shopping' in order to pretend we'r sophisticated. We'r not.

Women are falsely portrayed as if they all love to shop.

This silly stereotype has a historical background, because it were the females who had to shop.

Not so long ago, women were not allowed to work, have their own bank account, or decide over their independent integrity.
Women had to look sexy and act as if they adore men, in order to survive.

It was pivotal for a young teenage girl to succeed in the diner or shoppingcentre, to get married and thus secure her survival.

As a married wife, she got a little allowence of her husband to buy the things he wanted. And to buy his food so she could prepare it for him.

That's why women traditionally were the shopping people. Marketeers still don't realize, that women might have never liked it, or surpassed that stage of girly shopping, because they nowadays can obtain a job, a bank account, a house and can sustain themselves.

They don't depend on a man for their survivall anymore.

Somehow, girls are made to belief that they have to wear pink, giggle submissively when man says something and be sexy.

But that is just a leftover from the 1920's

I don't know. I guess going out shopping now and then can be fun. If you have money and time.

Dutch ladies are generally just practical. So, they shop, but they know in advance what they need and will aim for that. They don't waste time with window shopping. Why would they do that?

And under the influence of the Christian party, the shops have very limited opening hours.

Dutch women choose internet shopping, because shops are only open during office hours,
you know, when everybody is at work. And on Saturday from 9 - 5.

They don't have time to go out on a shopping spree with girfriends while busy with job, children, 85% of the household and do all the DIY in the house (Dutch men are only emancipated when it comes to paying the bill and fixing things in the house, they think women should do that themselves).

I LOVE to shop... I do it in the stores as well as online.. I love pink things, I love glittery things... I love nothing more than wondering around shops getting ideas, then searching for better bargains elsewhere... i love finding cool little treasures and bringing them home to enjoy.. I can rummage for hours in an antique store... The only thing I dont like about shopping is trying on clothes... I like nothing better than taking my daughter shopping, we laugh, we argue, we LEARN about each other every time... There is not a damn thing wrong with women who love to shop...
