Btw, did you already have the exam? Or, is it coming up soon?

GPs aren't great at administering these, but if you go to a proctologist, it's really not so bad.

Got my first one done last month also. Wasn't so bad if you get over the embarassment factor but it could save your life so it's really good you did it.

Yes, I hear you! I wrote about this very topic in someone else's recent thread about having things "shoved up your bum." Why does this procedure even have to happen? Can one just refuse it and opt out of it? I mean, it is hardly fair. It's not like, "Hey, you stick your finger in my butt and I'll do the same to you." I wish there was some way to deter this ordeal from happening. Kinda like when I go to the dentist for teeth cleaning. I sit out in the car right before my appointment and eat an entire package of Oreos. (I don't really, but I am thinking that I should try it one day, as no amount of flossing ever seems to satisfy these people!)

Women have to have quite invasive exams annually -- sometimes more often. We just do them. A prostate exam cannot be any worse than those. And since both can keep a check on cancers undiagnosable by other means, I don't really understand the desire to "opt out". Of course you can...no one will make you go to the doctor. But it's YOUR health...and the mental/emotional/financial health of your family & friends if you get sick. Be a man and take it! biggrin

Yeah, I had the exam. I suppose I can tolerate it from now on, but that first one is a shocker. My father successfully fought prostate cancer so it's important that I keep track of this annually.

Whatever doctors are in charge of sticking their finger up celebrity bumholes must be some damn well-paid professionals!

so true, its really mind over matter. Men r so funny when its doc time. guess if they had to do a pap smear they'd faint! legs cocked wide open lights camera action! and those cold contraptions!! guys listen get it done! it's easy compared to what women must do. wink

Seriously tho my friend is currently doing chemo to fight prostate cancer. if I could ease his pain by shear will of thought I would but I cannot. one way to avoid the pain of prostate cancer is early detection.

This is no big deal. It's only one finger and it lasts a second.

It seems to b intense for lots of men

They really have a problem with getting it done - but it shouldn't b because its life saving

Straight men need to get over the fear of having their butt hole touched

Because that's all it is!!!!!

I hate it with a passion. It's fucking 2013. With all this high-tech shit, you'd think doctors would come up with a less invasive procedure.

No doubt, if something becomes "less invasive", they'll have invented it for men before they do it for women -- even though women's exams are much more uncomfortable. They use "contraptions" on us!!! confused Why you guys such babies??? wink lol kisses

they're really expensive here in australia, so i just get mine checked by an old guy down at the pub that used to be a doctor... buy him a beer and he'll take you out the back and have a look at it for you

it's a bit odd though... his finger sure feels a lot bigger than it looks shrug
