Ben Affleck is the new Batman

I don't know how to feel about this.

http://www.comicbookmovie...s/?a=85828

Ending weeks of speculation, Ben Affleck has been set to star as Batman, a.k.a. Bruce Wayne. Affleck and filmmaker Zack Snyder will create an entirely new incarnation of the character in Snyder’s as-yet-untitled project—bringing Batman and Superman together for the first time on the big screen and continuing the director’s vision of their universe, which he established in “Man of Steel.” The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures. The film is slated to open on July 17, 2015.

Last month’s surprise announcement of the new movie featuring both Superman and Batman created a wave of excitement and immediately fueled discussion and debate—among fans as well as in the media—about who would put on the cape and cowl of Bruce Wayne’s alter ego.

Snyder successfully re-imagined the origin of Clark Kent/Superman in the worldwide blockbuster “Man of Steel,” which has earned more than $650 million worldwide to date, and climbing. The director will now create an original vision of Batman and his world for the film that brings the two DC Comics icons together. Affleck will star opposite Henry Cavill, who will reprise the role of Superman/Clark Kent. The film will also reunite “Man of Steel” stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

In the announcement, Silverman stated, “We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.” Snyder also expressed his excitement about the casting of Affleck, noting, “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”

Sue Kroll added, “We are so thrilled that Ben is continuing Warner Bros.’ remarkable legacy with the character of Batman. He is a tremendously gifted actor who will make this role his own in this already much-anticipated pairing of these two beloved heroes.”

Affleck recently starred in the Academy Award®-winning Best Picture “Argo,” which he also directed and produced, earning acclaim and a BAFTA Award nomination for his performance in the film, as well as a number of directing honors. In 2010, he starred in and directed the hit crime thriller “The Town.” His recent acting work also includes “The Company Men,” “State of Play,” and “Hollywoodland,” for which he received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. Earlier in his career, Affleck starred in and co-wrote (with Matt Damon) “Good Will Hunting,” for which he won an Oscar® for Best Original Screenplay.

The new Super Hero film is being scripted by David S. Goyer from a story he co-created with Zack Snyder. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan and Wesley Coller serving as executive producers. Production is expected to begin in 2014. The film is based on Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, and Batman characters created by Bob Kane, published by DC Entertainment.

Yeah just saw that. Great minds think alike.

Ok so I'm thinking.....Daredevil.....terrible film.....but I just saw a picture of him next to a picture of Bale's Batman and ok, Affleck could look the part of Bruce Wayne. THAT'S plausible. But of Batman........maybe we all have Bale programming in our heads....let's see how this pans out. I want to be proven wrong.

Agreed....but there's something just so, I dunno, bland about Affleck. I mean, no matter what he's in all I see is HIM and not his character, LOL. I'm not sure this was the best time to introduce the world to a new Batman as potentially mediocre as Affleck could be....

I definitely think he's better suited for the role than Bale was. But I still don't see how a live-action movie with Superman and Batman together is ever going to work.

The first time DC killed Batman was when Joel Schumacher took over the franchise. Now they've done it again with this horrible move. Ben Afflack sucks donkey balls.

Wow, what a lateral career move. He directs Gone Baby Gone, The Town and wins the Oscar for Argo. Now he plays Batman in a sequel to a mediocre Superman movie. They must have paid him a ton of money.

nod Hit the nail on the head. I've never thought that Ben was this talented actor...he always bores me to pieces. There's only one role that I sort of enjoyed him in (although he wasn't on the screen that long and was only in probably about 3-4 scenes) and that was in the movie "Boiler Room"...all his other movies I pass on. Now he's going to be the next Batman? ohgoon This reminds me of when they chose Clooney to be the new Batman and it was a borefest. It's going to be the same deal here too. Hollyweird really cracks me up.

It's not like they would have had to look far. They could have gotten Ben's buddy Matt Damon for the job....Matt is a way more talented actor than Ben could ever be.

Affleck is underrated. I'm reasonably happy about this. He was great in 'The Town' and 'Argo'. I'd be happier if he was directing Supes vs Bats though. I do think he's a better director than actor.

The voice of Batman has always been ridiculous, especially in the last two Batman movies, but can you imagine Ben Affleck trying that style of voice?

Because Hollywood is more image conscious, especially nowadays. Both men to me are selling their looks, take that away, and hollywood wouldn't look at them twice.

i don't see why it won't work. affleck is a talented guy. i'll go see him. and besides, does it really matter who wears the batman suit? it's not like that thing lends itself to personality anyway

Affleck seems all right. He has the right Bruce Wayne look. I don't think Zach Snyder is very good, so the only doubts I have about the movie are about him, not the actors.

it's alright people, everything is OK

after the Keaton-Burton more than decent era, we got the Schumacher era (doody)

after the Nolan-Bale excellent era, we'll get the Snyder-Affleck era (doody part 2)

it's the neverending circle of life, the rules of nature, destiny, it's meant to be lol

excellency...then crap...excellency again...then crap again... nuts

I predict we'll get a new amazing Batman movie somewhere in 2028 or something...

---

that said, Affleck is just WRONG as BOTH Wayne/Batman

but, since this is a Superman vs Batman kind of thing (spin-off) it MIGHT just be tolerable/watchable...

We all have been programmed to like or even dislike Bale as Batty and so maybe we're looking at it from that stand point too much. So to be fair, the press release says they are going to "create an entirely new incarnation of the character". I don't really know what that might mean and from which Batman era they might choose but they've done all the Batman eras on film and tv. He doesn't have to be a brute like what Bale was. Just make him a smart bad ass. Yes, I'm hoping they make him a smarty pants that manages to outwit Superman and kick his ass.

If they are going by the graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns, then maybe Affleck might be a good choice although he doesn't look that much older.

God, I hope I'm not trying to justify this to myself.
