So I took my kids to the bookstore today (forgot my damned coupon! ) and I thought about getting myself something, but ultimately couldn't decide what I want to read.

I'm sort of overloaded on the Sci-fi right now.

I was thinking of something like Steven King, but nothing piqued my interest.

I am halfway through "The Robe" for about 2 years now...completely lost interest in it. I lost interest in Star Wars (which I used to ravenously consume). I have one of the Dan Brown books (The Lost Symbol maybe?) that I don't really want to start reading right now. I started one of the Kabbalah books that I got at the center, and it doesn't interest me much.



So tell me Readers of the Org...what are YOU reading right now?

I am reading Dan Simmons' "The Terror."

Here's a summary:

The Terror is the name of a 2007 novel by American author Dan Simmons.^[1] The novel is a fictionalized account of Captain Sir John Franklin's lost expedition of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror to the Arctic to force the Northwest Passage in 1845–1848. In the novel, while Franklin and his crew are plagued by starvation and scurvy and forced to contend with mutiny and cannibalism, they are stalked across the bleak Arctic landscape by a monster.^[2]

The characters featured in The Terror are almost all actual members of Franklin's crew, whose unexplained disappearance has warranted a great deal of speculation. The main characters in the novel include Sir John Franklin, commander of the expedition and captain of Erebus, Captain Francis Crozier, captain of Terror, Dr Harry D.S Goodsir, and Captain James Fitzjames.^[3]

In the final chapters of the book, Simmons explores and uses various aspects of Eskimo mythology to explain the existence of the monster (called the Tuunbaq) as a mythological creature made flesh, as well as its reasons for stalking and preying on the men of the Franklin Expedition.

The Terror was nominated for the British Fantasy Award in 2008.

for some reason during this time, i get a hankering for reading anything about medieval stuff mostly from england or germany. Its been happening ever since i was a teenager. its starts when summer ends until winter.

so i am at the moment looking for high fantasy.

so im gathering books for the harvest of sorts.

I needed to read a book that could take my mind off things, and this was it.

I'm reading Dan Brown's new one...Inferno

The premise is interesting as well as the history of Florence and Dante but Brown's cheesy dialogue is cringeworthy. A few over the top scenes require suspension of disbelief.

That sounds VERY interesting.

I lied actually.

I'd completely forgotten that last weekend (I think Alzheimer's is creeping in) I set myself to start reading the Game of Thrones books.


I saw the first 2 episodes in the series, and decided I wanted to read the books, so I ordered the first two books in the series. They've been in storage until last weekend when I told myself I would read it...packed it in the bag I took to the beach...and forgot all about it.

Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston.

In the Shadow of the Banyon - Vaddey Ratner. Very good story and well written.

Makes me thankful for all I have and so glad that I live in Canada.
