Ben Affleck Working Out Two Hours a Day for Batman Role in Man of Steel Sequel

The Jacked Crusader! Ben Affleck has been cast to play Batman opposite Henry Cavill's Superman in the planned Man of Steel sequel -- and the Oscar-winning hunk, 41, has already begun intense training to fill the iconic superhero's suit. A source tells Us Weekly that the actor, director and father of three has been working hard to get buff -- training two hours a day to transform his physique.

Affleck's surprise casting in the DC Comics-based film was announced late Thursday, Aug. 22 by Warner Bros. "We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics' most enduringly popular superheroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent,," explained Greg Silverman, Warner Bros.' president of creative development and worldwide production.

The only way Ben Affleck is believable as Batman is if he were rescuing suburban hipsters from bad coffee in a strip mall somewhere out in Iowa. Other than that, I don't see how this is going to work!

I have it! Read it at least twice. Like it very much. But you know Hollywood won't do it justice. NO way. I think it's ok for a comic but as a movie... no.

Well they aren't doing a film adaptation of the book. They'll be using parts of it to make the film. I'm down with the Bats/Supes idea.

Exactly. These two characters can coexist in comics and cartoons, but trying it in a live-action movie is not a good idea.

I actually watched Argo the same night I heard the news.

The guy's made no less than three truly legit flicks.

So I will cut him some slack and trust that he and Snyder (with Nolan's input) will give us a passable Batman. It's fashionable to bash Man of Steel but it's a good movie in its own right. It's about on par with Batman Begins in terms of reboots. With a decent Luthor plotline the sequel could take off.

On second thought, Affleck alone can't take the movie down.

When we really look at it the Jokers have been more iconic than the Batmen in terms of movies.

Ben's true Gifts are his Writing/Producing/Directing. He's not a bad actor whatsoever. He's just decent to mediocre. Women don't care about his acting skills they simply like his Face so the theatre will be packed with Chicks this-go-round.

*****************************************************************************

I will say this...Years ago when I heard that brilliant actor Edward Norton was gonna play "The Hulk" I laughed because I couldnt picture him pulling off that role...It was out of his element...Ed was awesome and the flick was a HIT. Shame on the Studio for dumping him as a Future "hulk" due to finding another actor with a Prettier face.

So I'm gonna hold out before I say Ben is gonna fuck up Batman....

I think you have that backwards. Ed Norton didn't want to continue as the Hulk, so the studio had to find another actor.

I was watching that movie with the little girl that he did with J-Lo (can't remember the name and won't waste time googling it)...

The whole cast was awesome, and the story was decent, but Ben was so wooden and unbelievable as a "grieving widower" who used to be a fancy Manhattan go-getter.

neutral Sorry. Not believable. He was the same character that he always plays. Just with a cute little girl at his side.

I also saw most of "Paycheck" on cable the other day.

Interesting (yet ludicrous) premise aside; he did NOT fit the "action hero" role. No way was it believable that his dork ass could beat up all those trained goons after him. Nope.

I just don't see Affleck kicking ass. Sorry. Granted, NO ONE could picture Michael Keaton kicking ass before 1989 either...but he was so good in the role (and the movie had enough camp built into it) that it worked marvelously.

hmph! Me no like.

Report: Bryan Cranston Cast as Lex Luthor in 'Man of Steel'

'Breaking Bad' star has reportedly signed a multi-film deal

After five seasons of playing Walter White, the chemist-turned-meth-kingpin on AMC's Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston has racked up plenty of evil-doer experience. And according to report from Cosmic Book News, he'll boost his villian credentials even further by playing Superman nemesis Lex Luthor in the upcoming sequel for Man of Steel.

Better Batmen Than Ben Affleck: See Who's a Better Fit for the Role

Cranston has reportedly signed a deal that includes at least six appearances (and possibly more), meaning that his character will appear in a variety of films set within the inter-connected DC Comics universe.

"Cranston is truly a dream casting for Luthor," a source told Cosmic Book News.

This news follows last week's controversial announcement that Ben Affleck has signed on...lay Batman in the same film. The actor reportedly inked a deal that includes 13 total appearances.
