If I was Lucy's Uncle...

...u know Lucy, that skeleton they found of that old not quite human from but beyond a chimpanzee. Well sometimes i like to pretend I'm her uncle and try to figure out how i wuld precieve things.

One thing i am certain of is that fireflys/lightning bugs wOuld FREAK ME THE FUCK OUT! Like if i didn't already know what they were or had the means to study them or examine them closely or summn like that, I wouldnt want NITHING ti do with them. i think i would run from them thinking they were like demon bugs or loose spirits or bugs from hell or summin' crazy.

What misperceptions from lack of knowledge or limited perspective in a world where you were "Lucy's Uncle/Aunt" would drive you crazy or mystify you or something.?

im sad now that i thought this would be an interesting topic for a thread...apparently its not? im not begging that we stick to fireflys or summin like that...some things in the world MUST have been horrifying without knowing some of the in's and outs of them. like a kidney stone for instance. poor cave-guy would have almost NO idea what was going on and probably would have a horrified mindset with not knowing how to fix it and it could keep him from hunting and eating for some time. all he could do was look for an anestheitic of some sort...or maybe chew whole slew of poppy seeds or summin. It just might be his last damn day. how would they precieve a comet or asteroid. ...lightning...the world had to have been a pretty damn scary place way back when...shit...its pretty damn frightning TODAY.

what things that seem simple today fo y'all thing peoplebway back when would be utterly confused about?

Nah, it is an interesting thread BobGeorge. I guess I had just never really thought about it before. (Though I really was expecting something about Lucille Ball when I first opened the thread. lol )

I think any natural disaster - earthquakes, tornados, tsunamis, hurricanes. All of these would be things that would be difficult to understand. I think it would be these very things that would cause a "caveman" to think that it must have some mystical explanation, in order to explain what he can't understand.

(And yes, I do believe in God. And understand that my statement might be used against me some day. in P&R. lol )

Why would an ape or apelike species be scared of an insect, there's like a zillion of them in their everyday life. Especially back then, imagine the fleas, they probably were sharing the forest with bugs the size of freight trains, creepy crawlies that would send all us intellectuals running for the hills. They saw more stars at night too, no streetlights and stuff blocking out incoming light, so for a bunch of those sky lights to come falling out the sky probably wasn't scary, curious but not scary. Now when one of those suckers hit the ground or exploded in the sky, that would've been scary.

They may have thought the lightening bugs were stars come to earth! If you look at stars in the sky with a naked eye, they don't look much bigger than a lightening bug!

Oh, and let's not forget the platypus. That poo animal just looks some kind of potato head except with animal parts that you can put on and mix and match. To a cavemen he would have look at that a little askance. It's not a duck. It's not a beaver. It was the first of the first mixed marriage!

well that ape like creature woud be ME....EYE am Lucy's uncle. and EYE hate insects. today, firefkys trip me out...i always feel fairly 'wonderous' when theyre around. they make me feel like im in a time machine...futuristically primitive...hehe. if i was a caveman-lawyer and had a simple mind, a la Phill Heartman. ..i very well imagine they would freak ME out...not just a randome ape like caveman...but me, im lucys uncle.

and the platypus' happened when god strained on the shitter too hard and got light-headed when he stoopd up...he unfortunately developed the platypus at that very unfortunate moment.

LMAO! BobGeorge! God, platypus, dump!!! giggle

Ah no, not volcanoes. Tornados. The devils fire and brimstone has got NOTHING on God's wrath sent from the heavens as a twirling dirvish, picking everything up in its path and throwing all about. I mean, that is God having a temper tantrum right there. The devil coughing got nothing on God's temper tantrum. (Tornados have given me nightmares my entire life. Those things scare the crap out of me.)

Aw, that's only because the EWE of now was born in a pristine hospital or something, no bugs allowed, but the EWE then would have been surrounded by all kinds of insect from the moment EWE was born. Besides all the other Lucy's uncles (and aunts) would have teased you mercilessly, EWE'd at least of fakeded not being scared.

The rest of all that you're on your own, I got work to do.

I've never seen fireflies don't know if I could stand them since I have no great love for insects, but this was pretty.
