The Volcano thread

(Oh why the hell NOT? It's a damned slow week on the Org)

So...Mexico City is being dusted with volcanic ash this week, and I thought to myself; "Hey! We need a volcano thread on the Org!"

Well then, how does one start a volcano thread on the Org?

I figured I'd post pics.

Maybe discuss volcano movies?

hmmm

Here goes;

Pics of famous volcanoes -

Italy's Mt. Vesuvius

Probably the world's most infamous volcano...I'd personally love to go check out the fossilized victims in Pompeii.

Mexico's Popocatepetl

An ACTIVE volcano only 43miles (70km) from a city with a population of about 9 million people!!!

Japan's Mt. Fuji

An iconic symbol of Japan itself

Hawaii's Mauna Loa

The world's larget volcano...and maybe the most stunning one as well.

Washington, USA - Mt St. Helen's

The eruption was incredible, and the "before & after" pictures are amazing.

Iceland's Eyjafjallajökull

Not only a source of some amazing photographic images, but probably also makes 'Popocatepetl' relatively easy to pronounce in comparison.

Now...what "volcano" movies should we discuss?

"Joe Versus The Volcano" is a CLASSIC!

"Dante's Peak" is horrible, in the sense that I hated that old woman so much that I was happy when her stubborn old ass had to jump into the toxic acid lake to save the family she put in peril to begin with, and that makes me feel horrible.
lol

Yes it is! I have been thinking about this movie all week and I was sad to see it's not playing on tv anytime soon. I've been wanting to watch it. lol

Volcanoes are pretty fearsome,
but I find Sharknadoes & Pirahnicanes more frightening because they're mobile.

Don't feel bad...I've never seen one personally either.

I will probably see Popocatepetl first b/c I'm hoping to go visit family in Mexico City within the next year or two.
