'Frances Ha' It's cloying, but a cut above most of the dreck out there. There were some good things in it. Avoid if you have a low tolerance for womanchild protagonists. |

I thought you weren't going to see it because it looked too whimsical.
I will repost my review from the movie thread:
It was very Lena Dunham-ish--although more grounded and optimistic than Tiny Furniture / Girls which both can get a bit ridiculous at times. I liked it. 3.5/5 |

I'm making an effort to get out and see things that are critically acclaimed.
I've only seen brief clips of Tiny Furniture and Girls, so I can't "speak to that".
Re: Frances Ha, on a four-star scale, I can't decide if I would give it 2.5 or 3.
How do you do that single-spacing now? |

Press shift+return for single-spacing.
If critically acclaimed films are what you are looking for then I highly recommend fellow Torontonian Sarah Polley's new documentary Stories We Tell.

That's weird. It's working again for me, but (as you can see in my last post), it seemed to be "double-or-nothing".
I like documentaries and - as you know - I did check out Take This Waltz. But I gotta say the subject matter doesn't interest me.

The scenes between Gerwig and Michael Zegen are well-written, directed and acted. Parts of Zegen's performance were very Stillman-esque, to me. |

I've been choosing movies from this snooty top 250 list: http://prince.org/msg/100/385209
It doesn't get me out (unless there is a classic screening at the local art house), but it did expose me to some remarkable films I wouldn't have seen otherwise.

Thanks, man!

I decided to skip this movie out of solidarity with Jennifer Jason Leigh. |

Greta Gerwig kind of bothers me anyway. Now that she's a homewrecker, I'm really over her.

If I boycotted homewreckers, I wouldn't be able to watch a lot of films.
