It's cloying, but a cut above most of the dreck out there. There were some good things in it. Avoid if you have a low tolerance for womanchild protagonists.

It was very Lena Dunham-ish--although more grounded and optimistic than Tiny Furniture / Girls which both can get a bit ridiculous at times. I liked it. 3.5/5

I'm making an effort to get out and see things that are critically acclaimed.

I've only seen brief clips of Tiny Furniture and Girls, so I can't "speak to that".

Re: Frances Ha, on a four-star scale, I can't decide if I would give it 2.5 or 3.

That's weird. It's working again for me, but (as you can see in my last post), it seemed to be "double-or-nothing".

I like documentaries and - as you know - I did check out Take This Waltz. But I gotta say the subject matter doesn't interest me.

The scenes between Gerwig and Michael Zegen are well-written, directed and acted. Parts of Zegen's performance were very Stillman-esque, to me.

It doesn't get me out (unless there is a classic screening at the local art house), but it did expose me to some remarkable films I wouldn't have seen otherwise.
