Smartphone OR Tablet?

In other words, I don't know if I should buy a smartphone first OR a tablet. If I buy a smartphone, it'll be an at&t goPhone Fusion. If I buy a tablet, it's a draw between a Kindle & a Nexus.

So tell me you professional opinions. Smartphone OR Tablet? And why?

I'm enjoying my tablet, though I'm no where near a professional. And I don't use it to it's full potential mostly for reading and internet searching but I've got all these apps I should know how to use them. It does have AT&T bars but I haven't used it to make a call or text, but I guess I could if I got a bluetooth, I can use it for portable wifi, even the pay as you go option without a monthly bill. There was a thread on here a while ago joking about people taking pictures with tablets I guess because it's so obvious, since a smartphone is more discrete. Taking public transportation most people have smartphones and I've gotten a couple of side eyes when I'm reading on my tablet like I'm the oddball. Oh well. Outside of that, the tablet does have a bigger screen even the smaller ones, so I'm not squinting even playing games. Though I have done it yet, I know I can download digital movies, so having a bigger screen is a benefit too. Downside, Android is being a pain regarding Adobe Flash Player.

Which tablet did you get for yourself?

I'd go for a tablet...working with a traditional phone is a hassle for certain things like going on Prince.org.

wink

I bought my son a Nexus over the Kindle...don't ask me specifically WHY, because it was back in November...but I found websites that compare the two and there are certain features that gave the Nexus an edge for what junior would be using it for. It was great (up until he dropped it) and I wouldn't mind owning one myself.

I don't dare watch video on my phone. Or read.

I have a Galaxy mp3 player, which looks like a phone but acts like a tablet. While I would prefer the ease of typing and reading on a nice hearty tablet, the convenient size of the smaller device won me over... It can fit in my pocket/ purse and I can discreetly watch music videos at my exposed work station when I get sleepy on the job boxed
If you will, so will I

I like to have both, but if you're going to get a tablet, the new Nexus 7 is coming out in a month or so.

Let me say this..I'm one of those Dudes that's old-fashioned when it comes to some things. I STILL want a keyboard with my Cell. I hate the touchscreen keyboard. So I have a Smartphone with a classic keyboard. I"m becoming MORE & more addicted to Twitter so I GOTS to have something small to carry around so I'm just seconds away from tweeting absolutley, positively NOTHING..LOL... A Tablet would be too big, but good for other things.

*****************************************************************************

So if you're a Twitter or Facebook addict a Smartphone is the best way to go VS a Tablet.

I still have some old-fashioned tech values myself, hence why I was one of the first orgers to complain about the obvious anti-desktop agenda. But even I cannot overlook the fact that some of these smartphones & tablets are getting better.

But I will still have a desktop in my apartment no matter what. cool

Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) is the absolute pinnacle of the mobile operating system experience. Even the brand new iOS 7 can't hold a candle to what Google pulled off, and with Android 5.0 (Key Lime Pie) due in just a few months, Google will extend their lead even more.

I am currently running 4.2 on both my phone (Nexus 4) and my tablet (Nexus 7). However, I am considering selling my current Nexus 7 to get this year's model in a months time.

Nexus. I wanted to start simple just to see how I liked it. Now it stays attached to my hip.

For me, since I have an iPhone, I personally feel like buying an iPad is a waste. In my mind, an iPad is just a big ass iPhone anyway. It would be redundant (for me that is). I'd rather get an 11" inch Airbook for when I travel instead.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Having two Macs at home, and an Andriod phone, I have fought the urge of getting a tablet for a very long time. When my MacBook started acting up, (it's about nine years old now) I started looking into getting something else. I looked into the Nexus 10, and while its a great tablet, it just did not have as great a display as advertised. When my brother got the iPad for his birthday, all he could do, was brag about it. I finally took the plunge a few weeks ago and got a refurbished iPad 4, and I haven't looked back. I haven't touched either of of my Macs, since. As for reading things on my Galaxy 3, that's also a thing of the past. This little machine, does damn near everything that a computer can do, even print,( I purchased a new printer yesterday) and it works great with it. With all that said, I'd say, go for the tablet.

I don't like web browsing on my iphone because its too small. Apps work great, but typing more than a few words kind of sucks.

But I bring my phone everywhere and I probably wouldn't bring a tablet with me.

They are worth the hype but not the price but neither are other name brand tablets or smartphones for that matter. Make no mistake about the IPad is the king of kings on the tablet market.

Great choice with IPad. I was hyped about the Nexus 10 too but was disappointed with the display too and for the same price as an IPad no no no!. Nexus 7 has a better display than Nexus 10 but I'm just not a small tablet guy. The IPad is simply just the standard bearer on the tablet market.
