It was my first time seeing Gone With The Wind above also. I wasn't as impressed with that one. I'm slowly working my way through the Sight & Sound top 250: http://prince.org/msg/100/385209

I saw Gone With the Wind when I was a teenager, probably when it first came out on video, whenever that was. I don't remember feeling particularly moved by it.

I'll have to check out the list. My bf and I tend to have very different taste in movies but will both watch old classics so if we want to watch something together we end up watching stuff like The Godfather, Serpico, that kinda thing.

hmmm Maybe it's just Al Pacino we both like. lol

That list is incredibly snobby (which I like). If foreign and art films are not the bf's thing then maybe you'd be better choosing from Entertainment Weekly's recent all-time greatest list which appeals more to the average joe.

Strangely we both like foreign and art films but even with that my taste tends to run on the mainstream, lighter side of that and his is just a bit more indie and heavy.

In any case - I'll be checking them both out. biggrin

I don't know why I assumed you were the snob and he wasn't. I see now that you are the problem here. wink lol

There is a screening at the local Film Forum of Rosemary's Baby which is on the EW list. I may check it out since that's another big one I've never seen. I will admit, my sudden interest in it is mostly because it made an appearance on Mad Men this season. boxed

Fantastic film even if it is a "prequel"... The story was perfect with a great twist towards the end. Brilliantly animated, great jokes, stellar voice casting...

I re-watched "The War Wagon" on the way back from New Mexico.

I LOVE this movie. Probably my favorite John Wayne movie of all time. It's got everything!

John Wayne is freshly out of prison, and has had his ranch stolen out from under him by Pierce (Bruce Cabot). Of course there is gold on that land, and while Wayne was in prison, Pierce hit the motherlode. Wayne has come back to get his ranch back, and the gold along with it.

He propositions Kirk Douglas to help him. Kirk Douglas is so freaking cool in this movie! It's worth watching just to see all the ways he leaps from the ground into the saddle. Douglas' character is a gun-for-hire and has actually shot Wayne before. In fact, Wayne is the only guy Douglas ever shot that didn't die. So they have that between them.

Anyway, even though Wayne has hired Douglas, Douglas gets propositioned by Pierce to kill Wayne. So, Douglas can't lose! Either he kills Wayne and gets $10,000 or he pulls off the job WITH Wayne and gets $100,000.

They round up a couple more guys, and the deal is on! This is one movie where there really isn't a leading lady. Nope - it's just all guys, doing what guys do best. Hellraising, fighting, scheming, fighting, shooting Bruce Dern and blowing up stuff.

On a scale of one to ten Gatling guns, I give this movie

The Godfather: Part II (1974) - The early life and career of Vito Corleone in 1920s New York is portrayed while his son, Michael, expands and tightens his grip on his crime syndicate stretching from Lake Tahoe, Nevada to pre-revolution 1958 Cuba.

The fact that it was so sprawling took away from it a bit. star star star star

Ummmmmmmm.............it was on cable TV.

Please tell me you don't think all the movies that everyone here reviews are movies they went to a movie theater to watch!

Anyway, I really had no intention of watching it but when we got home from dinner last night, my son said, "Wow! Twitter is blowing up over 'Sharknado'!" and he turned it on.

This movie will go down in history - one way or the other!

Showgirls (1995)

I am glad I went to a special screening. And while the experience (complete with guest commentary) was enjoyable and funny, sometimes I watched THE MOVIE in stunned silence, horror and/or disbelief.

Me neither, though the major scene with Pitt and the Z in the lab at the end was unintentionally hilarious (teeth chomps).

I cannot put a price on the amount of coolness I have received by being one of the ones to watch the world premiere of "Sharknado", so even if I had paid to see it, any price would have been worth it, LOL.

Rosemary's Baby (1968) - A young couple move into a new apartment, only to be surrounded by peculiar neighbors and occurrences. When the wife becomes mysteriously pregnant, paranoia over the safety of her unborn child begins controlling her life.

Design for Living (1933) - A woman can't decide between two men who love her, and the trio agree to try living together in a platonic friendly relationship.

Very risqué for its time. Being pre-code, it was refreshing to see an older film with uncensored attitudes about sex. star star star 1/2
