ANGEL HEART-appreciation thread (THE greatest movie )

oh good lord-its still my fave film almost thirtry years later

this is when briefly mickey rourke was THE greatest actor of his generation and the movie just oozes an effortless creepy cool...the album is fucking nuts too

The time is the 1950s: seedy Brooklyn private eye Harry Angel (Mickey Rourke) is hired by shady Louis Cyphre (Robert De Niro) to locate a pop singer who reneged on a debt. Harry ventures into Harlem, the first step of a Heart of Darkness-inspired odyssey. Each time Harry makes contact with someone who might know the singer's whereabouts, he or she is killed in a horrible, ritualistic fashion; a Satanic cult seems to be at the bottom of all the carnage. Harry solves the mystery, all right. He just didn't know that he had the answer all along -- even before Louis entered his office. Also available in the "unrated" video version, Angel Heart is best known as the film that nearly got an X-rating due to a no-holds-barred sex scene involving Mickey Rourke and Lisa Bonet. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

I saw this in Germany where it was a huge hit (based on the story of Faust selling his soul to the devil and of course a classic Germen novel etc).

I love movies that are not too predictable and I loved this movie . I still catch it when it is on TV now and then ... while i would not classify it as a "perfect " movie ... I do love it ...

Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

Jony and me are on the same wavelength. Wonderful movie; don't know which is better, this or Silence Of The Lambs.

Two powerful scenes without giving it away:

The racial element is interesting as well. The darkness of slavery infects and haunts the south. Wow.

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

I do think it all fell apart when the baby had the eyes at the end... crapped out right there. Saw this one in the theater back in the day.

One of my all time favorite movies. Loved Mickey in this role. Still do. The flow and structure of this movie grabbed me when I first saw it and still does.
