Look, I'm not gonna lie. I'm a middle-aged white guy and my legs have never gotten a tan ever. But summertime is descending on New York City with a horrible swiftness, and that means it's going to be hot, gross, humid, muggy, and disgusting.

So can I wear shorts? And even if the answer is no (and let's face it: The answer is no), what are acceptable styles of shorts to wear? I'm not going to wear them to work or important events or anything. Just to keep me from wanting to kill myself when I'm walking around the city this summer.

I think if youre in pretty decent shape, any age can get away with wearing khaki shorts. Solid colors are a must, but not too bright.

I think you can wear shorts, but they should be a) a nicely tailored style that is b) modestly long (think 9" inseam) and c) worn with more refined footwear (city sandals or boat shoes, for example).

Absolutely no flip flops, short shorts or jorts.

I finally got rid of most of my dad's pleated stuff. And when he wants to order stuff from the company I work for, I tell him he can't use my discount to buy pleats.

OMG. Sweetie had a pair of coach's shorts when we first met. He wore them exactly once, I clowned him mercilessly, and never saw them (the shorts) again.

I am 100% behind Genesia's stance on: No pleats and no flip flops (Unless at the beach or pool). I would go with the idea that the short length should be at the knee (Or just above or below the knee). Basically, don't wear your shorts too long or too short!!
As for colors, wear what you like that looks good on you.
