All movies with Keanu Reeves and Nicolas Cage. They both can't act. But I like Keanu Reeves a lot, he seems to be a nice person.

Nic Cage was amazing in Leaving Las Vegas. If an actor has a decent script and Director, it makes all the difference.

When was the last time that you watched a movie, and the acting really struck you as BAD.

Not just bad, I mean "suddenly-realize-that-I'm-watching-a-scripted-performance" bad?

Recently (as my FB friends can attest) I was watching "Back To The Future"...my kids love those films. Suddenly I realized that I really can't STAND Michael J. Fox's quirky acting. He spent the whole movie either in a state of being "startled". The WHOLE DAMN MOVIE.
hammer Is it just me?

Also...

I caught a bit of a movie called "4:44 Last Day on Earth" with Willem Dafoe.
hmm
He was horrible. There was one particular scene where he's standing on a rooftop, and I suddenly was no longer engrossed in the film but rather it was like watching an actor on a stage.

shrug

So what about you?

What movies have struck you with really bad acting?

Would you be in a constant state of bewilderment or "startelization" if you were caught up in some adventure involving time travel?

On top of that..poor guy had his mom chasin his junk...if anythingbcoud make u perma-startled, it would be that.

I hate this movie with a passion. And Cage's acting is horrible in most movies, he's always overacting like crazy.

Not just saying in order to wind PJ up but rather facing into the truth...

But Star Wars : The Phantom Menace has easily the worst acting. Not just one performance but each character on the screen was terrible, across the board.... even R2D2 looked as if he was just going through the motions.

^ Hate to say it, but the best acting in that movie was the lightsaber sequences.

Also, Sofia Coppola singlehandedly dropped The Godfather Pt. III from potential classic to just-a-good-movie.

^Its not the actors, its the director on this one. Lucas is notorious for giving no direction what so ever. He's all bout the special effects.

I agree with this.

Natalie Portman, Liam Nieson, And Ian McClellon (sp?) in a movie that ends up being bad is just unforgivable, and is the director's fault.

THe movie suffered from :

1. no clearly defined protagonist

2. far too much explaining of the plot through dialogue (bad dialogue)

3. boring scenes with cameras that don't move.

4. too many thing going on, but with no emotional investment from the audience.

And finally, who the hell casts Natalie Portman but fails to put her

in one of those skimpy Princess Liea outfits from Return of the Jedi? rolleyes

Damn shit.

Really? I'm not going to argue that his performance pales in comparison to Freeman and Spacey, but that scene at the end was convincing to me when I saw it.

hmmm

Maybe I need to watch it again.

He's great in other things, but, yeah, I don't know about that one. Watch the end again, see what you think.

I completely ignore them.

For me the stories began at Episode IV.

I mean in Empire Strikes Back the Darth Vader 'reveal' is supposed to be a big deal.
The prequels kill that (among other things they destroy, like our souls).

For me, the movies sound be watched (if you must watch them all) as 4,5.6 and 1,2,3.

The of course 7,8,9

The sequential timeline Lucas sets up kills all suprises, and bores us to tears

before we are given a chance to care.

I hadn't until recently realized the level of debate that continues over Pitt's performance in that final scene. To some people, it seems to be among the worst performances from the 90s. Others argue the over-the-top antics are pretty realistic of a person hit with such an unexpected and shocking loss.

I'm undecided, but the whole "What's in the bahhhhhhxxxx!?!?" thing does tickle me. giggle

Perhaps, but Haydn Christianson's Annikan could not have been salvaged by any director, Shattered Glass or no Shattered Glass

"Bad acting" shouldn't be confused with simply a bad role / bad casting / bad script / bad directing. Sometimes, the actor might prove a really good actor under different circumstances. Also, "bad acting" shouldn't be confused with "I just hate that actor" - I was going to put Jennifer Aniston, but upon reflection I realized she's actually not a bad actress, I just don't like her and/or her roles.

When I saw the thread title, I immediately thought of Denise Richards in "The World Is Not Enough" as "Dr." Christmas Jones. I still remember that moment when she first spoke in that movie, like 15 years ago, there were audible groans in the theater. Her lines were delivered like bricks. Everybody else in the movie did well with the material, and Sophie Marceau even elevated the paltry stuff she was given, as does Dench. So there is noone to blame for Denise Richards' horrible performance except her bad acting.

I liked Brad Pitt in Snatch, Babel, The Tree of Life and Moneyball. He was okay in Inglourious Basterds. He brought some much needed comedy to that film.

Those, and 12 Monkeys are good performances.

But his cameo in True Romance almost stole the flick (were it not for Bronson Pinchot).

Forget modern films, the old "classics" are sometmes shocking. Pretty much anything Jennifer Jones was in, and she was nominatd and won Oscars for utter drivel like The Song of Bernadette and Love Letters.

All I could think of when watching her was that she must have been a great fuck on the casting couch.

That ain't even right. disbelief lol

In highsight... Loves Letters

I thought the script, Joesph Cotten, and the supporting cast buoyed her performance.

As far as the casting couch. David O. Selznick was the other person on the couch; after his death her career took a dive and the knives came out. It wasn't pretty... blackeye

"Snow White & the Huntsman". Now I'm not a Kristen Stewart fan, but I was willing to give the movie a go. Chris Hemsworth...nice to look at. I'd heard Charlize Theron was great as the queen...she was acceptable, but good grief Kristen Stewart was atrocious! Absolutely unbelievable in the role.
I'm firmly planted in denial
