I still follow the Atkins rules regarding adult beverages (for the most part). Did you know that Guinness is a low-carb beer? geek lol

Obviously, having something like diabetes would increase your chances of having a hypoglycemic episode, but they can happen to anyone. If you'd care to try one out (I don't recommend it, but...) just go out and start drinking Jack Daniels and Coke on an empty stomach.

I firmly believe that most instances of people getting violent (or weepy) when they're hammered are more about hypoglycemia than the alcohol, itself. I've had complete meltdowns when I've been drinking and haven't eaten enough. (I'm not diabetic, but have had hypoglycemia since my teens. That's why I eat a relatively low-carb diet.) In fact, all my friends know that if I start to melt down (with or without alcohol), they need to feed me, STAT. When my sugar is low, I am not my normal, rational self.

I get extremely crabby when I'm hungry. I do my best to temper it but it's incredibly powerful how irritable I am when I need to eat. My bf has learned this lesson. lol

The moment I knew that Sweetie really loved me was when we went out for the Rose Bowl years ago. I had just moved, then gotten on the plane the next day for the trip. (Packing out of boxes and contractor-size trash bags. lol ) We were meeting some friends on the Santa Monica pier, where the UW marching band was playing. I was just exhausted and so hungry - and the people we were with just would not make up their damn minds about where to eat. mad

Sweetie saw me very close to melting down, turned to our friends and said, "I need to feed this one now." And then he hustled me into the nearest restaurant. I don't even remember what we ate, I just remember marveling at the fact that he had known what was going on - and fixed it.

I was a goner after that. lol

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Girl, just like James used to say, whasaneva you fix, it's gonna be fonky! I know you can burn! lol

Stuffed mushrooms!!! Another oldie but goodie! I don't know what's going on with me but lately I'm losing my mind with nostalgia over all those treats we used to eat in the US. I remember back in the day, people used to make stuffed mushrooms with enough garlic in them to kill a vampire lol I used to still throw down on them though. Couldn't stand less than three feet in front of me afterwards, but I still enjoyed them lol

Oh yep. This I know from personal experience... and thanks for the reminder since I would like to go to the beach this summer lurking

and the alcohol burning nod : that would account for all the stick figures galavanting across the earth who appear to live on Vodka and nothing else. This is the science behind the dearly departed lo-carb guru Dr. Atkins -advising us in the 90's to pick booze on the rocks over a sugary sweet at parties. nod

Hypoglycemic episodes! eek Is this something related to a pre-disposed condition (ie Diabetes), or can it just happen out of the blue to anyone with the wrong mix of things, as it were?

I still follow the Atkins rules regarding adult beverages (for the most part). Did you know that Guinness is a low-carb beer? geek lol

I don't drink too much Champagne unless it's for a special occasion, but I drink other sparkling wines regularly like Prosecco (from Italy), and the German version of sparkling wine known as Sekt...the red ones usually show up in the height of summer and around Christmas. They're lovely! I have a pal who throws gatherings here and there and it's the first thing you get as soon as you walk through her door. party

Canoas de Maduros

you can do a smaller variation on this by slicing the plantains the long way and after frying them... roll them up, anchor the roll with two toothpicks each and stuff center with the meat n cheese.
