If you keep falling asleep on it, then maybe it's just not a movie for you. lol Which is fine, The Godfather isn't for everyone. To me, it's the best movie of all time. You have a superior cast, everyone was spectacular in their role. The script was on point. As much as a train wreck they say that filming this was, as well as all the multiple script re-writes, etc. the result was a classic. The first time I saw this movie was when I was 12 and have been hooked since. Even though I have all three on DVD, whenever it comes on television, I'm glued to the TV as if its the first time I've seen it. What most people don't get is that this movie isn't about violence, it's about strategy.

hmmm

But see, just the way you're explaining the movie, with such enthusiasm, convinces me that I'm overlooking something. That last line you wrote seems like an important clue to me, because I've reviewed all the violent scenes over and over again, and I'm like... 'meh, horses head...okaaay, what else?'. To make it worse, I can't even tell you the significance of that bloody horse head being in that man's bed. [SPOILER ALERT? TOO LATE???] Then, I know there's also something about "an offer that can't be refused", but couldn't tell you what that is either (...I just know it sounded like a threat, lol). I know... SAD!

I think you have hit the nail on the head when you suggest I may be missing the strategy. The next time I watch it (...I'm sure I have it packed away in some box somewhere in all this mess), I'll be sure to watch it with 'strategy' in mind.

Yes please do and let me know what you think...orgnote me! thumbs up!

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

This is possibly the gayest thing I'll ever say, but I have been madly in love with Julie Andrews for years. mushy

They showed this at the Sundance Cinema in Madison last fall. Sweetie had never seen it, but had always wanted to because he was an exchange student in Salzburg in high school.

I promised him I wouldn't tell anybody he went with me, because he'd probably lose his "brutha card" if word got around. lol

Ooh, doggies - that is a tough one.

Probably "Say Anything."

When I am in a bad mood and just want to cheer up and feel better, "What About Bob?" never, ever fails to raise my spirits. I love Bill Murray and he's just atabout perfect here.

When I am in a bad mood and don't want to laugh, "Requiem For A Dream," cheers me up because I think 'shit, at least it ain't that bad,' and the acting is so spot on it's uplifting.

I'd also consider "Fargo," "Shopgirl," "Parenthood," "Waiting For Guffman," "A Patch of Blue," and "The Princess Bride," among my absolute favorites. Not nearly as deep or impressive as I wish this list was, but at least it's honest.

Joe Tyler has really conservative taste.

Pedro Almodavar is one of our greats. Admire him for not selling out and doing American films.

The Godfather (1972)

In all the years since this movie came out, I have attempted to watch it on about 5 or 6 different occasions, and never made it completely through without falling asleep at some point. I even attempted to read the book, but never completed it either. I'm sure I'm missing out on a great story; everybody seems to love The Godfather, and all it's sequels.

Nevertheless, I still want to actually watch (...and complete) this movie someday. Most everyone rates it as a classic.

Great movie, better book.

I think I was probably too young when I first attempted to read that book (...like around 13). Although, I had read William Peter Blatty's novel "The Exorcist" several times over in the prior year, so perhaps there's just something about the storyline of "The Godfather" that keeps me stuck on stupid.

Still, I'm going to take MissFee's advice, and give it another shot (...from a different perspective).
