this is my 50,000th post on the org... fifty freaking thousand

the pressure is terrible.

over 10 years of orging and 49,999 posts. so what the hell do you make a post about that will properly mark the milestone?

i could make a joke post, but... it has to be funny as shit to be worth the 50,000th. like eddie murphy being posessed by the ghosts of robin williams, steve martin, and tina fey funny.

nah, too hard.

something political?

no. just no...

something about my writing?

nah.

um...

hmmm...

well, crap. i guess...

imago is an idiot and johnart is a whore.

shrug

meh... good enough.

.

I've been here 11years & 11 days and just past 16,000 posts.

lol

actually, i have to say... orging helped put me on the path to my writing.

i had only ever written sketch comedy, comedic essays, and short stories in the past.

at some point of org history maybe 8 years back, someone (i think it was anxiety or handclaps) started a thread about whatever month being "write your own novel" month. a few orgers started writing, and i kind of thought... why not? if it's terrible you can delete it.

it ended up being the first time i ever wondered why i had never attempted to write something full-length. i had just recently found out i was HIV positive, and writing became therapy for that and issues of my childhood which i had started actual therapy for. so i started writing something called "david's death dance"

awful title, decent idea.

so i played around with writing about it because of that thread. after some time, i set that org-inspired project to the side, and co-wrote a full length comedy musical instead. we got that produced and had a few small runs of it and had it in a NYC new musical festival two years ago.

then the co-writers and i started creating a full-length musical with a plot and characters instead of our wacky musical dark comedy. i took the characters and stories i was playing around with in the org inspired novel, and reworked them into the begining of a script. i ended up losing a dear friend to murder while writing with it, and the show became about that as well. then i stripped the songs out and turned it into a play. then i used the same characters and turned it into a five play cycle. and after 5 years of writing on it, i am almost finished.

when you put all 5 plays together, it's pretty much a novel. about 600 pages and epic. "david's death dance" got worked and reworked and written and rewritten into "death (and straight boys)"

and it all stems from that thread on the org.

but, yeah... i have wasted a SHIT-TON of time on the org smile

I know exactly what you're saying. Despite my cynicism, I have read some truly creative thoughts here. I finally joined after several years of reading one clever comment after another.

I remember my first post. I don't remember what it was, specifically, but I remember being terrified that I'd be torn to shreds. In fact, nobody noticed. A harbinger of things to come!

yeah, i had a similar experience. i was on the purple mailing list thing, but for the life of me i could never quite figure it out. i lurked for a while once it became the org, and eventually worked up the nerve to start an account.

my first post was explaining the phrase "jumping the shark" to someone in P:M&M. i remember checking it obsessively, worried someone was gonna say something awful to me. i have no idea why i was so worried about it. the org was a loooooot meaner back then, though.

still, it was kind of a silly fear

i just finished the first draft of part 4 last night. thankfully, the rough draft of part 5 is about 50-60% done already.

5 freaking years, but... worth it. even if they never get produced, they taught me to write.

thank you!

i am my own action in so many ways.

i went and saw a friends' show i did some publicity work on (i shot all the poster and ad stuff)

then i came home and smoked a little weed.

i am too old (at 34) to be going out and trying to get laid/drunk/high.

as dan's crotch would say: "ain't nobody got time for that"

Our relationship got off to a rough start.Like Robert Deniro and Charles Grodin in Midnight Run.They hated each other, but warmed up,wanted to fuck live chickens on the farm. But you deserve more than some cheap broken watch as the climax ends.

that may actually be the most concise description of me through charles grodin movies in the history of the org.
