Heading to New Orleans w/a girlfriend next weekend. At this time next week I'll be sipping strong coffee and enjoying some beignets. cloud9

And the bf and I were considering planning a trip to Peru this year, but we may be too late in our plans to make it happen. We'll see. If that doesn't work we'll figure out another longish vacay, probably at a national park somewhere we can do some hiking and biking.

And he wants to go to an electronic music festival in October and I think that's in North Carolina, where I've never been, so that could be cool.

I may fit another weekend trip or two in as well. I get lots more vacation time from work than him, so I try to fit in mini trips without him.

Spent Christmas in New Orleans a few years ago. One of my favourite trips ever! Enjoy!

a time travel thread? oh yes

my favourite movie about it is The Terminator, because it introduced the concept of multimple time-lines, not just one past-present-future

12 Monkeys is also a classic

not mad about Back to the Future, the second movie is my favourite, but the first one stinks and the third one is not even a good western

i read 'Time Travel Thread' too nod

Were you an Army brat?

Air Force brat. My dad was stationed at a bunker near Baumholder (sp?). After that he transferred to Hahn AFB. The friends I'll see in LV are from Hahn. Are you an Army brat?

No but I spent my youth with them. Most of them are in the Army now or retired, just like their parents.

Same here. I went int the Navy and married a sailor but we didn't retire from the military. I was out of contact with these folks for 20 years. When we found each other again, and some other brat friends, I was surprised how many were lifers.

I visited Hahn the year it closed down.

I believe Bitburg closed down shortly thereafter.

Man, I loved being in Germany.

Why Laos?

It's a lot less developed than Thailand, a lot cheaper, and the people are just as friendly (if not friendlier).

It's a good 'escape' from Thailand....plus the weather is cool during the winter months.

Even a simple border city like Vientienne, although developed with modern convieniences still feels like a sleepy town.

Plus having been occupied and colonized by the French, it still retains a small part of 'French' flair to it, making it even more unusual a place.

Just a great place to visit for short trips--and it's cheap as hell.

nothing big for a while

it's our 10th wedding anniversary this year... we were going to leave the kids with relatives (they'll be 3 and a half, and 1 and a half at the time) and go to paris for a couple of weeks, but we'd miss them too much... so we'll just head to hamilton island for a week or so here in oz instead (with the kids)

falloff @ the folks wanting to travel through time.

Anyway...this is what I am planning for 2013;

Orion Music Festival in June

Virginia Beach with the Family in July

...and hopefully the Org meetup in August

I'm being careful not to say that anything definite because my plans always seem to crumble apart when I do.

Rome is overrated just so you know, yeah it's full of history and beautiful but not really that much fun like other capitals in Europe, at least that's my experience but northern Italy is better biggrin...

Well I don't know, I'm from Sweden so the prices aren't that different to me. However I will say that the food is totally overpriced and not really that good. I remember buying a pizza for 25 euro approx 32 dollars and the pizza had flies on it and I didn't get a refund...

If you go in summer do you ever spend time on Lake Erie? I spend a lot of time romanticizing about the Great Lakes heart

The only thing that is definite and booked so far is.... FLORIDA! I'll be staying in Kissimmee for a couple of weeks and doing all the Disney stuff. I'll hopefully be able to catch up with some .org'ers while i'm there. Fingers crossed. It's a long way off yet, though.

I recently visited the Cape Verde islands.

Those are just some pretty pictures tho, but quite fitting of what you find there.
