This week has been quite eventful for Lauryn Hill. In addition to making claims as to why s...ying taxes, the Grammy Award-winner is also reportedly being sued by her landlord for eviction.

According to TMZ, Hill’s South Orange, NJ landlord has filed an eviction lawsuit in response to the singer failing to pay rent last month. The documents revealed that Hill has been renting the mansion since 2009.

The report comes on the heels of the singer-actor’s forthcoming April 22 tax evasion sentencing, where she faces a maximum of one year in pr...each count.

Lauryn Hill Tax Evasion Case: Singer Claims 'Threats' Were The Reason She Stopped Paying Taxes

After pleading guilty to not paying federal taxes on more than $1.5 million over three years, Lauryn Hill has reportedly filed court documents in response to her charges.

According to TMZ, the documents claim that Hill stopped paying taxes "when she withdrew from society at large due to what she perceived as manipulation and very real threats to herself and her family."

While the documents didn’t reveal exactly what the threats were, the eight-time Grammy award winner alluded to the incident in a post on her Tumblr page last year, explaining that she chose to put the safety of her family first.

Over-commercialization and its resulting restrictions and limitations can be very damaging and distorting to the inherent nature of the individual. I did not deliberately abandon my fans, nor did I deliberately abandon any responsibilities, but I did however put my safety, health and freedom and the freedom, safety and health of my family first over all other material concerns! I also embraced my right to resist a system intentionally opposing my right to whole and integral survival.

Hill is asking for probation prior to her April 22 sentencing where she faces a maximum of one year in prison and $100,000 in fines for each count.

according to several other orgers: she can not be made to go to jail or to pay taxes, they can not ever force anyone to go to jail for not paying taxes.

I'll repeat what I said about Reese Witherspoon and her DUI: celebrities think they can do what they want and not get in trouble for it. The same ole boring story...and they continue to repeat it.

Singer Lauryn Hill gets reprieve on tax evasion sentencing

NEWARK (Reuters) - Grammy Award-winning singer Lauryn Hill was given a two-week reprieve on her sentencing for federal tax evasion on Monday as a federal judge admonished her defense counsel for failing to come up with most of the tax money promised prior to her scheduled hearing.

Hill, a solo artist and a member of the Fugees rap trio, pleaded guilty in June 2012 to failure to file federal tax returns from 2005-2007, when she earned $1.8 million. She faces up to a year in prison for each charge.

Lawyers for Hill, who burst to stardom with her 1998 album the "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," said they made a $50,000 payment toward the back taxes and penalties, but still need to come up with another $504,000 no later than May 3.

They had expected Hill to raise money from signing a new recording contract by the fall of 2012, but Hill was unable to complete the recording sessions. She has not released an album since 2001.

Hill, a mother of six children, including five with Rohan Marley, the son of reggae legend Bob Marley, claimed she failed to pay the taxes while she was sheltering her family to get away from excessive publicity and threats.

Attorney Nathan Hochman, representing Hill, said the singer had lined up a deal with a "hard money lender" for a loan that was secured by two real estate assets, and that she was expecting final approval of the loan sometime this week.

"For Miss Hill, the only question was when she was going to pay those taxes, not if," Hochman told reporters after the hearing.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Madeline Cox Arleo rescheduled the final sentencing hearing until May 6, but warned lawyers for the hip hop star that the court would not allow another slip up.

"This is not someone who stands before the court penniless," Arleo told the court.
