"Girls" (I still watch it!)

Wrong! There are so many great films picked up at Sundance that we would likely never know about otherwise. Sundance is still very important.

Yeah, season one was definitely better. This week was almost bad, definitely boring. Even if the rest of this season is SPECFREAKINTACULAR it still won't be as good as last season. There was bound to be a dip, though. Hopefully they'll take a step up next season.

Best show on cable right now, IMO, is Shameless. That show kicks my ass.

Sundance became partly filled with Hollywood sourced "indie" films over time. Million dollar movies with superstars, pushed as indie. Lately they're trying to make up for it with some eclectic programming.

Did you know that "Beasts of the Southern Wild" was a film made through workshopping and support at the Sundance Institute itself? It's not something undiscovered that proved itself to the film selection committee from out of the blue indie yonder.

There are a lot of politics and business with Sundance that actually prevent some of the true fresh and independent films from ever screening there. They got to big.

Yep. But none of that changes the fact that MANY films (a large majority still, in fact) go to Sundance without a distribution deal, and leave with one. Films that would sit on shelves for a couple years, MAYBE get on VOD release and then go straight to DVD/Blu-Ray, without anybody knowing they existed.

Plus, nearly every indie studio, short of people who are literally doing it BY THEMSELVES, is now housed under a larger studio, if not several layers of larger studios/corportations.

I'm not sure what different it makes that "Beasts of the Southern Wild" was "workshopped" or "made" by Sundance. Nor am I sure how you wouldn't still consider that an indie. It still got made. Period. And although it's been out since last June, it was never on more than 318 screens at one time. A blockbuster backed by a major studio will start out on four to five thousand screens.

Lastly, there is politics everywhere, in everything. In film fesitvals more than a lot of other places. Sundance is still important, and far from overrated. It still supports small movies (regardless of who makes them), helps them gain attention and get distributed so people outside of the small inner circle of film making get to enjoy them.

I have actually been thinking of this post for a few days now lol .

I don't think calling something overrated is because you think the act stinks, I think it is more like "How the hell did that act get so very high on the totem pole of success???"

No one mixes Funky with Diva anything like Grace Jones.

Listening to her deep smoldering voice still gives me chills and her outfits were outrageous but never silly.

Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Gwen Stephanie, all mix funky with diva but not quite like her and none of them give me the chills when they sing.

Yet, each and every one of them is better known then Grace and has awards and $$$$ that Grace will never see.

Justin Bieber and Justin Timberlake, cute? Sure. But in no way in hell am I as moved by their singing as I am by the late Mavin Gaye and Donny Hathaway. Given the amount of money and awards these two rack up, I should be getting the chills EVERY time they sing.

Miley Cyrus has beautiful eyes and a pretty mouth.

Can she act? Can she sing? I mean can she sing and act any better then the girl at your local high school who has the lead in this years musical? This chick makes millions and can't touch her hair without the world talking about it.

There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

John Waters (generally speaking, I like a few of his films but prefer my camp less winking)

Wes Anderson (though i liked Rushmore)

Intentionally watching bad movies (low budget, hokey fifties scfi, ect), most are boring imo

Most films made before the late sixties (with exceptions of course)

Western Films

Giallo Films

Rocky Horror Picture Show phoneomen

Watching movies with people (rather go alone)

Forced rebellion/partying/ getting drunk high (most things 20somethings are supposed to like doing)

Prince - 1999 (like 5 or 6 songs on it but overall its probably my least favorite of his eighties output)

Best films/ Best Albums of all time Lists (always the same boring, uninspired choices)

CGI animation (prefer hand drawn)

Using cell phones for non phone purposes

Talking on the phone

Twitter

Apps

Celebrity culture

Starbucks

Song lyrics (prefer music)

Chocolate (prefer vanilla)

Shoe fetishizing

Car fetishizing

Jeans (why anyone would pay $200 for a pair is beyond me)

Watching sports

Being outgoing
